ON GUARD
In today’s reading Saint Mark gets right to
the point: be on your guard; stay awake; don’t be
asleep when the Lord arrives. Advent is a time to
ponder three events: God’s entrance
into the world as a human
child, God’s coming into our world
today, and God’s glorious coming
at the end of time. These reflect
three promises: God’s promise to
bring salvation to all people, and
Jesus’ promises to be with his
followers and to return at the end
of time. We do not know when Christ will return. In
the meantime we are gatekeepers and stewards.
We must be ready to welcome Christ when he
comes again. We must be attentive to God now: in
the Eucharist; in the guise of the homeless, the hungry,
the prisoner, the addict in whom Christ appears
before us; and in the Spirit within us. We are urged
to live with hope in our hearts for Christ’s final return.

NOVEMBER MONTH DEDICATED TO ALL
SOULS
All Masses for the month of November will be
dedicated for our deceased brothers and sisters
of our Parish. Please, take a special envelope
and write the names of your family members
who passed away. The envelopes will be in a
basket on the altar for all Masses. Voluntary donations
are always welcome.
Changes to the liturgy of the Mass
Dear parishioners, as you known, the US Conference of
Catholic Bishops, has reviewed the Missal and has decided
to change the liturgy of the Mass in English. The
Conference is trying to be faithful to our Latin Tradition.
Starting today (November 27th) some of
the prayers and answers of the Mass will
change. We have copies of the new rite. I
ask your understanding and willingness to
participate in these new regulations.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT – 3 –

The St. Vincent de Paul Society depends on
your donations in order to assist the needy in our
parish: You may assist with:
Cash or checks in the St. Vincent de Paul boxes
at the back of church (side aisles).
Personal/household hygiene items in the round
container at the back of church (near the holy
water tank).

Please join us every day as we say the Rosary at
11:30AM before our regular noon mass.
Be a volunteer
All parishioners are welcome to actively participate in
any of the ministries, or be an usher/greeter. When you
give of your time freely (and you are coming to Mass
anyway), you are not only helping build our wonderful
parish community spirit, but you are also personally becoming
a more integral part of the Mass celebration.
Think how enriching this can be. Please think about volunteering.
You can be scheduled as frequently or infrequently
as you want, and it is not a lifetime commitment!

The parish needs a vacuum
We are in need of a vacuum to maintain the parish clean
for all the parishioners. It doesn’t need to be a new vacuum
we are very happy with a used one that works properly.

Christmas Play
Our Parish Hispanic community invites all of you to participate
in the Christmas play on Sunday, December 18 th ,
2011. The rehearsals will take place in the Parish Hall,
after Sunday 12:30pm Mass the following Sundays: November
20 th , December 4 th and 11 th . Definitely, it would
be a great opportunity to relive and enjoy together the

Grand Annual Update
Dear Parishioners,
I am thankful to God for your continue support.
Please accept my apologies for not having the latest
update on our goal for the Gran Annual Collection.
Because of Thanksgiving Day weekend we were
demanded to send the bulletin for printing earlier
than usual. This let us with no other way but to print
without update.
But don’t forget that the grand annual collection is
still going on till the end of the year. My prayers to
God, that with your help we will be able to achieve
our goal of $70,000. Please received a heartfelt
Thank you and many blessings from me for your
continue support.
If you did not receive an envelope for this collection
in the mail, please pick one up at the back of church.
You may make a one-time gift or pledge your gift
and fulfill it in several installments.
As the weeks progress I will be keeping you posted
on how we are doing towards our Grand annual
goal.

for plowing the parking lots and sidewalks at St. Thomas,
Our Lady of Lourdes and St Mary of the angels for the

SANTO TOMAS DE AQUINO – 4 – JAMAICA PLAIN, MASSACHUSETTS
Once again this year, the St. Vincent de Paul Society asks
you to help your neighbors at Christmas time. Monthly, we
see about 30 families in need.
There are two ways you can help. Starting on November 26
and 27, there will be two Christmas trees in the back of the
church with envelopes for gift cards. The envelope will give
you the necessary information about any special wish that a
person might have. We ask you to take an envelope and
return it the 10 th but no later than the 17 th of December
with an appropriate gift card so that person can choose her
own gift.
Alternately, there will be a special second collection on the
10 th and 11 th for those who would rather give cash or a
check than a gift card. Any checks should be made out to
the St. Vince de Paul Society. We will use that money to
buy appropriate gift cards or to buy food for people who
need it. Everything that St. Vincent distributes to our
neighbors comes from you and your donations which puts
food on our neighbors’ tables and shoes on their children’s
feet. We have no separate endowment or other source of
funds. Thus we ask you to be as generous as possible. We
have a lot of women and children who need coats this year,
so if you know of anyone who can provide coats, please let
us know by calling the rectory (617- 524-0240) and leaving a
message.
These are difficult times for all of us. If you have enough to
share with someone else, please do so. The people who
receive gifts from you are thankful for your thoughtfulness
and generosity. Many you have a happy and blessed Christmas
and a joyful and health New Year.

EN GUARDIA
Evangelio de hoy san Marcos va directo al asunto:
estén en guardia, velen; que el Señor no los encuentre
dormidos a su regreso. Adviento es un tiempo para reflexionar
en tres acontecimientos: la entrada de Dios al
mundo en la persona de un niño, la venida de Dios a nuestro
mundo de hoy y la venida gloriosa de Dios al final de
los tiempos. Éstos a su vez reflejan tres promesas: la promesa
de Dios de salvar a todos, la promesa de Jesús de
estar con todos los que le siguen y la otra promesa de
Jesús de regresar al final de los tiempos. Desconocemos
cuándo regresará Cristo. Mientras tanto somos los guardianes
y buenos administradores. Debemos estar listos
para recibir a Cristo cuando vuelva. Debemos estar atentos
a Dios ahora: en la Eucaristía, en la persona de los
vagabundos, los hambrientos, los prisioneros, los adictos
en quienes Cristo aparece ante nosotros y en el Espíritu
que habita en nosotros. Se nos insiste en que vivamos con
esperanza en nuestro corazón hasta la última venida de
Cristo.

activamente en los ministerios o a dar la bienvenida
a los demás. Cuando regalas tu tiempo y de todas
maneras asistes a misa, no solo estas ayudando a
construir una maravillosa comunidad espiritual pero
estas personalmente convirtiéndote en parte
importante de la celebración de la misa. Piensa que
tan enriquecedor esto puede ser para ti. Por favor
piensa en ser un voluntario. Puede ser un servicio
frecuente o no tan frecuente dependiendo de tu
disponibilidad y no es un compromiso para toda la
vida.

Obra de Navidad
La comunidad hispana de nuestra parroquia
los invita a todos (padres e hijos) a participar
en la obra de Navidad el domingo 18 de diciembre
de 2011. Los ensayos se llevarán a
cabo en el Salón Parroquial después de las misas de 12:30
los siguientes domingos: 20 de noviembre, 4 y 11 de diciembre.
Definitivamente, será una gran oportunidad para
revivir y disfrutar juntos del mensaje navideño. Para más

PRIMER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO DOMINGO – 5 –
NOVIEMBRE 27, 2011
La Sociedad San Vicente de Pablo depende de
sus donaciones en orden de asistir a los
necesitados de nuestra parroquia. Usted puede
ayudar con:
Dinero en efectivo o cheque en las cajas de St.
Vicente de Paul colocadas en la parte de atrás
(pasillos de lados) de la iglesia.
Artículos de higiene personal en el contenedor
redondo colocado en la parte trasera de la
iglesia. Gracias por su ayuda!
Limpieza de la nieve
Si algún feligrés esta interesado en hacer un contrato para
la limpieza de la nieve en los parqueos y las aceras de
Santo Tomás, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes y Santa María
de los Ángeles para esta temporada de invierno por favor
de llamar a John Ridge al 617-524-0240
Noviembre mes de los fieles difuntos
Todas las Misas del mes de Noviembre se celebrarán
por los fieles difuntos de nuestra parroquia. Favor de
tomar un sobre especial y escribir en él los nombres
de sus difuntos. Los sobres se colocarán en una canasta
que estará todo el mes sobre el altar. La donación
es voluntaria y muy agradecida.
La Iglesia necesita una aspiradora
Estamos necesitados de una aspiradora para
mantener la iglesia limpia para todos nosotros
feligreses. No es necesario de que la aspiradora sea
nueva, nosotros aceptamos agradecidamente una
usada que trabaje y que este en buenas
condiciones. Por favor de llamar a la rectoría para
su aporte. Gracias a todos por su apoyo siempre.
La Obligación del Domingo
es observar el domingo
como día de descanso y renovación,
y para participar en
toda la Misa. Esta es una
obligación solemne, requerida
por el Tercer Mandamiento
de Dios. Todo el mundo
debería permitir una hora
completa para la celebración
de la Misa (desde el inicio del
canto de entrada hasta el
final del canto de salida) la
Misa no ha terminado en el
tiempo de la Comunión!
Gran Colecta Anual
Estimados Feligreses,
Estoy encantado de informarle de informarle los
avances con respecto a nuestra Gran Colecta
Anual
El total recaudado para la gran colecta anual hasta
el 13 de noviembre de 2011 es de $29,707
dólares, esto también incluye lo recaudado en la
Cena del Pavo el sábado pasado. Gracias a todos
de nuevo por venir y participar en este evento.
Como usted sabe la gran colecta anual estará en
curso hasta el final del año. Espero y rezo para
que con la gracia de Dios y su ayuda podamos
lograr nuestro objetivo.
Por favor, reciban un sincero agradecimiento y
muchas bendiciones de mi parte por su continuo
apoyo.
Gracias otra vez a todos ustedes que vinieron y
que participan en este evento.
Si usted no recibió un sobre para la gran colecta
anual por el correo, por favor, recoger uno en la
parte posterior de la iglesia.
Usted puede hacer una donación por única vez o
