Dear Family,
Ask your child to write
the spelling words
correctly on the blank
lines. As you work with
your child to practice
this week’s spelling
words, try the following
activity.
Concentration
Write the spelling words
on index cards with
blanks in place of the
letters that spell the
long vowel sounds.
(Note that in vowelconsonant-e
pattern
words, such as face,
the letters that spell the
long vowel sound are
separated by another
letter.) Write missing
letters from each word
on separate cards. Place
the cards facedown in
two stacks. Have your
child draw one card
from each stack and try
to make a word. If a
word can be made,
have your child read
the word and then
write it. If no word can
be made, have him or
her return the cards to
the stacks and continue
until all cards have been
used.
