<strong>Cuba</strong> Girasol & Estevez Travel are pleased to present you and your participants<br />

with a customize field program based on the content requests you have made.<br />

We value the opportunity to coordinate your experience and ask that you<br />

completely review the itinerary and information provided below and notify us if<br />

Sunday, July 15 - Arrival<br />

3:35 PM Departure from Cancun in <strong>Cuba</strong>na de Aviación flight #153<br />

6:00 PM Arrival in Havana - Transfer to the hotel<br />

7:15 PM Check in at Hotel Paseo Habana<br />

7:30 PM Dinner at Paladar (included) - Orientation meeting<br />

Monday, July 16 – Exploring Habana<br />

8:30 AM Walking tour in Habana Vieja. Explore the historical and oldest<br />

district <strong>of</strong> Havana; walk along Plaza Vieja, Mercaderes street, Plaza<br />

de Armas, and the Cathedral.<br />

12:30 PM Lunch in Old Havana at Café Mercurio (no included)<br />

2:30 PM Visit the Revolution Square<br />

3:00 PM Tour Vedado Downtown, the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Havana and visit Hotel<br />

Nacional a city icon from 1930s.<br />

5:00 PM Return to hotel –<br />

7:00 PM Dinner at Kasalta (included)<br />

Tuesday, July 17 – Arts and Community Development<br />

10:00 AM Overview <strong>of</strong> the current situation in <strong>Cuba</strong> with <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Habana<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Dr. Esteban Morales.<br />

1:00 PM Lunch at La Roca (included)<br />

2:30 PM Visit the Callejón de Hammel, a street cultural center led by painter<br />

and muralist Salvador González Escalona. His internationally<br />

known artwork deals with the roots and influences <strong>of</strong> African<br />

eligions in <strong>Cuba</strong>. Meet with Elias Asser, specialist on Afro-<strong>Cuba</strong>n<br />

religion and general manager <strong>of</strong> Gonzalez Escalona’s gallery.<br />

4:00 PM Visit the art studio <strong>of</strong> Eduin Fraga, a young artist who mixes<br />

newspaper collage and oil painting with various contemporary<br />

themes on social issues.<br />

5:30 PM Meeting with members <strong>of</strong> the Community Project Espiral. Proyecto<br />

Espiral, is a grassroots project dedicated to educate young people<br />

on environmental issues and sustainable development. Discussion<br />

on various pressing issues in <strong>Cuba</strong> with college students and<br />

young pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />

7:30 PM Dinner at El Carmelo with some members <strong>of</strong> Espiral (included)<br />

Wednesday, July 18 – Sustainable Development and Culture<br />

9:30 AM Visit a Farmer’s market<br />

11:00 AM Visit the Organic Agricultural Urban Cooperative <strong>of</strong> Alamar meet<br />

with managers, specialists and workers. Lunch at the cooperative<br />

included<br />

2:00 PM Return to the hotel<br />

Free afternoon<br />

5:30 PM Cultural activity with two community projects: Okan-Tomi, that<br />

explores and reworks Afro-<strong>Cuba</strong>n dances and music traditions and<br />

El Barracón, a women’s collective studying and promoting the<br />

African roots on <strong>Cuba</strong>n cuisine. We will enjoy the cuisine and a<br />

great performance. Simple and traditional dinner included.<br />

8:00 PM Return to the hotel<br />

Thursday, July 19 – Community Engagement and Culture<br />

9:00 AM Volunteer work with Okan Tomi and Espiral at Teatro El Alba<br />

(cleaning and preparing)<br />

12:30 PM Cajita Lunch (included)<br />

2:00 PM Return to the hotel<br />

Free time<br />

6:00 PM Visit the home and art studio <strong>of</strong> ceramist and painter José Fuster.<br />

Learn about his art and his community project<br />

7:00 PM Dinner included at his home-studio<br />

8:00 PM Return to the hotel<br />

10:00 PM Optional: Jazz night at La Zorra y el Cuervo ($10 CUC)<br />

Friday, July 20 – Community Engagement and Culture<br />
