From fibre to finished product
SCA controls the entire refinement chain, from the selection of
suitable wood fiber to pulp manufacturing and the production of
various fiber-based products. Knowledge of the entire refinement
chain and its processes allows us, as a pulp supplier, to contribute
to our customer’s productivity and product quality.

partnership
with board manufacturer
An essential part of Östrand’s service concept is to
offer customers technical expertise and problem solutions.
Combined with the cartonboard manufacturer
Korsnäs Frövi, the goal has been to reduce edgepenetration
absorption in liquid packaging board.
Korsnäs Frövi manufactures liquid and packaging board
for primarily the food industry. Due to problems encountered
with liquid penetrating through the edges of
the packages, the company considered changing its pulp
supplier. However, it was first decided to determine the
reasons for the problem and an intense cooperation was
initiated with SCA instead.
“SCA offers competency in areas not solely focused on
pulp. We wanted to determine the reasons for the problem
and SCA has the resources for this,” says Peter Juntti
at Korsnäs Frövi, who is the product development engineer
responsible for the project.
The project is now completed and Östrand has succeeded
in producing CTMP pulp with a satisfactory
edge-penetrating value. A valuable effort was invested
in the project, which resulted in improved pulp quality,
increased knowledge and a resulting satisfied customer.
