currently visiting the<br />
Sultanate.<br />
The two meetings discussed<br />
means relating to<br />
enhancing the existing<br />
co-operation between the<br />
Sultanate and Poland and<br />
Singapore.<br />
The meetings were attended<br />
by officials at the<br />
Heritage and Culture Ministry.<br />

Co-operation with Poland, S’pore discussed<br />
Boost to bilateral relations with Poland<br />
MUSCAT — Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister<br />
Responsible for Foreign Affairs, received in his office<br />
here yesterday Bogdan Borusewicz, President of the<br />
Polish Senate. The meeting discussed the bilateral relations<br />
between the two countries and exchanged views on<br />
international and regional issues of common concern.<br />
In another meeting, Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali,<br />
Chairman of the Majlis Ash'shura, also received in his<br />
office Borusewicz. The Majlis Ash'shura Chairman<br />
commended the bilateral relations binding the two<br />
countries. He gave a briefing on the march of the Majlis<br />
Ash'shura and explained the legislative and audit<br />
powers of the Majlis and the work mechanisms.<br />
The President hailed the legislative and oversight<br />
powers given to the Majlis in particular and<br />
the march of <strong>Oman</strong>i Shura in general, which has<br />
achieved remarkable successes in the Sultanate. As<br />
for the visit of the Polish delegation, he pointed out<br />
that this delegation is the biggest one ever to visit the<br />
GCC countries. He gave a briefing on the Polish Senate<br />
elections, the followed mechanisms in this regard<br />
and the parliamentary work in Poland.<br />
The meeting discussed joint co-operation and<br />
co-ordination areas between the two countries and<br />
enhancing the parliamentary relations as well as exchanging<br />
the expertise, in educational, investment<br />

MUSCAT — Dr Abdulmunim<br />
bin Mansour al Hasani,<br />
Minister of Information,<br />
has affirmed responsible<br />
freedom for the press and<br />
the media is guaranteed by<br />
the state and added that the<br />
current stage in the Sultanate<br />
needs media’s transparency<br />
and genuine role in society.<br />
The minister at meeting<br />
with the editorial staff<br />
of <strong>Oman</strong> Arabic and the<br />
<strong>Observer</strong> yesterday, said<br />
the bodies concerned are<br />
formulating a media strategy<br />
to determine what is<br />
expected from the media in<br />
the future.<br />
These bodies are also<br />
working on a detailed revision<br />
of laws and regulations<br />
governing the activities of<br />
the media.<br />
He called on journalists<br />
to practise their authentic<br />
role while observing the<br />
principles of responsible<br />
freedom.<br />
Dr Al Hassani said his<br />
ministry will undertake<br />
training for journalists.<br />
"Methods of training are being<br />
minutely revised while<br />
the ministry and other media<br />
institutions are providing<br />
generous funding for<br />
that purpose”, the minister<br />
emphasised.<br />
He further added: “Media<br />
is fast evolving around<br />
the world and media institutions<br />
must cope with all<br />
changes to remain competitive”.<br />
He said developing the<br />
content and layout of <strong>Oman</strong><br />
newspaper is continuing<br />
and big efforts are being<br />
made to ensure it plays an<br />
ambassadorial role for the<br />
Sultanate in Arab and foreign<br />
capitals.<br />

Sultanate takes part in<br />
Doha defence exhibition<br />
DOHA — Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy,<br />
Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, took<br />
part in the opening of the 3rd Doha International<br />
<strong>Mar</strong>itime Defence Exhibition and Conference<br />
(DIMDEX <strong>2012</strong>) yesterday being held<br />
in Qatar.<br />
The exhibition's opening ceremony was<br />
held under the patronage of Shaikh Tamim<br />
bin Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Hire Apparent<br />
of Qatar in the presence of defence ministers,<br />
Chiefs of Staff, Military Commanders and<br />
heads of participating delegations from differ-<br />
ent countries of the world.<br />
Sayyid Badr and his military delegation<br />
watched the associated shows which were<br />
held within the activities of the opening. The<br />
minister is accompanied by a military delegation<br />
comprises of senior officers of the Sultan's<br />
Armed Forces (SAF), in addition to participation<br />
of the Rear Admiral Abdullah bin<br />
Khamis al Raisi, Commander of the Royal<br />
Navy of <strong>Oman</strong> (RNO) and Mohammed bin<br />
Nasser al Wahaibi, Sultanate's Ambassador<br />
