and Culture, received in his
office here yesterday Bogdan
Borusewicz, President of the
Polish Senate, currently visiting
the Sultanate.
In another seperate
meeting, HH Haitham also
received in his office here
Dr Yaqoub Ibrahim, Information,
Communications
and Arts Minister of Singapore,
currently visiting the
Sultanate.
The two meetings discussed
means relating to
enhancing the existing
co-operation between the
Sultanate and Poland and
Singapore.
The meetings were attended
by officials at the
Heritage and Culture Ministry.

Co-operation with Poland, S’pore discussed
Boost to bilateral relations with Poland
MUSCAT — Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister
Responsible for Foreign Affairs, received in his office
here yesterday Bogdan Borusewicz, President of the
Polish Senate. The meeting discussed the bilateral relations
between the two countries and exchanged views on
international and regional issues of common concern.
In another meeting, Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali,
Chairman of the Majlis Ash'shura, also received in his
office Borusewicz. The Majlis Ash'shura Chairman
commended the bilateral relations binding the two
countries. He gave a briefing on the march of the Majlis
Ash'shura and explained the legislative and audit
powers of the Majlis and the work mechanisms.
The President hailed the legislative and oversight
powers given to the Majlis in particular and
the march of Omani Shura in general, which has
achieved remarkable successes in the Sultanate. As
for the visit of the Polish delegation, he pointed out
that this delegation is the biggest one ever to visit the
GCC countries. He gave a briefing on the Polish Senate
elections, the followed mechanisms in this regard
and the parliamentary work in Poland.
The meeting discussed joint co-operation and
co-ordination areas between the two countries and
enhancing the parliamentary relations as well as exchanging
the expertise, in educational, investment
and transport fields. — ONA

MUSCAT — Dr Abdulmunim
bin Mansour al Hasani,
Minister of Information,
has affirmed responsible
freedom for the press and
the media is guaranteed by
the state and added that the
current stage in the Sultanate
needs media’s transparency
and genuine role in society.
The minister at meeting
with the editorial staff
of Oman Arabic and the
Observer yesterday, said
the bodies concerned are
formulating a media strategy
to determine what is
expected from the media in
the future.
These bodies are also
working on a detailed revision
of laws and regulations
governing the activities of
the media.
He called on journalists
to practise their authentic
role while observing the
principles of responsible
freedom.
Dr Al Hassani said his
ministry will undertake
training for journalists.
"Methods of training are being
minutely revised while
the ministry and other media
institutions are providing
generous funding for
that purpose”, the minister
emphasised.
He further added: “Media
is fast evolving around
the world and media institutions
must cope with all
changes to remain competitive”.
He said developing the
content and layout of Oman
newspaper is continuing
and big efforts are being
made to ensure it plays an
ambassadorial role for the
Sultanate in Arab and foreign
capitals.

Sultanate takes part in
Doha defence exhibition
DOHA — Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy,
Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, took
part in the opening of the 3rd Doha International
Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference
(DIMDEX 2012) yesterday being held
in Qatar.
The exhibition's opening ceremony was
held under the patronage of Shaikh Tamim
bin Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Hire Apparent
of Qatar in the presence of defence ministers,
Chiefs of Staff, Military Commanders and
heads of participating delegations from differ-
ent countries of the world.
Sayyid Badr and his military delegation
watched the associated shows which were
held within the activities of the opening. The
minister is accompanied by a military delegation
comprises of senior officers of the Sultan's
Armed Forces (SAF), in addition to participation
of the Rear Admiral Abdullah bin
Khamis al Raisi, Commander of the Royal
Navy of Oman (RNO) and Mohammed bin
Nasser al Wahaibi, Sultanate's Ambassador
