Outdoors applications
It is rather necessary to remove laboriously snow or ice during the winter seasons
from outdoors areas such as paving, steps, entrances, roads, parking places or
entrance platform. Subsequently these have to be sprinkled with gravel or salt.
During calamity situations this procedures are very costly or even hardly possible.
Outdoors areas with slopes or steps can through slipping surface lead to serious
injuries. Considerable losses, which are difficult and costly to remove are caused by
water which thaws and leaks into building constructions.
Installation of electric heating cables ECOFLOOR PSV into these outdoors areas
together with controlling thermostat prevents from ice occurring and also snow
accumulation. Installed system works completely automatically and only during snowing
time or frostbiting of communications.
Operating system
Special thermostats equipped with sensor for temperature and humidity scanning are
designed for outdoors regulation. If the temperature sensor notices decrease under
set value and simultaneously the sensor of humidity notices presence of snow or ice,
than the system for outdoors areas protection is activated. During snowing or
freezing raining is the heated area kept above the freezing point and icing does not
occur. In case that snow melts or the temperature rises above set value, regulator
will de-activate the whole system. During very strong snowing, the snow gradually
melts and after the end of snowing even the snow which remained melts. Protection
system is operating only during necessary period and therefore the operation costs
are very low. Suitable regulation for protection of outdoors areas is regulator
EBERLE EM 524 87 with humidity sensor EST 524 001 and temperature sensor TFF 524 002.
Output design
The output for outdoors areas in climatic environment of the Czech Republic moves
between 200 to 300 W/m2.
Paving, communications – approx. 250W/m2.
Steps, ramps, bridges – approx. 300 W/m2, because these are being cooled from the
bottom. The size of output is also consequence of how deep it is put under the
surface and also with local climatic environment which has to be considered while
designing.
Installation
Heating cables and mats can be installed under outdoor tiling or directly into a concrete layer,
or where needed, into an asphalt layer.
Independent heating circuits should be installed by, for example, catching them in our special
GRUFAST strips. The heating cable should be laid between two layers of concrete. Install the
cable over the bottom layer by catching it in a GRUFAST strip and then pour the top layer of
concrete.
The cable can also fastened to a concrete placement grid. In this case, relatively thin concrete
must be used during pouring. In no case may an internal vibrator for concrete thickening be used,
because if used, it could damage the installed cable.
We recommend the use of ECOFLOOR heating mats to significantly speed up the laying process. These
