Dilatation joints must always be put into place around the room’s circumference. The whole floor construction, including the concrete delivery layer, must be a floating construction, i.e. the concrete layer must never be firmly connected to other constructions and must be separated from them using thermal insulation and dilatation belts (made of polystyrene or Mirelon, 8 mm thick) around the room’s circumference, which are led up to the height of the final floor. dilatation belt around the room’s circumference concrete delivery layer thermal Insulation anti-seepage insulation - this is only needed when the thermal insulation rests above a wet environment Profile Schluter – DILEX-EK, Balances strong motions
7 Dilatation belts MIRELON After the floor has been laid, the dilatation issue must also be handled as regards the connection of the tiling with the lining or baseboard. Special dilatation profiles designed for this purpose can be used here; silicon putty is also an option. (profiles Schluter are being distributed e.g. firm OSTAV s.r.o., Cihelní 99, Ostrava, tel. 069/661 90 93). Dilatation joint must be performed for larger surfaces as well. Maximum area of the dilatation unit is 25 m2. Length of the dilatation unit should not exceed 8 m and the mutual ratio of sides 1:2. Choice of dilatation joints is in accordance with the ground plan of the room. Ground plans in shape of L, Z or T divides on rectangular or square fields. Dilatation joint is being made into spreading concrete layer even in the tiles itself. In tiles this can be done with elastic silicone or special dilatation profiles ( e.g. Schluter DILEX-BWB – distributes OSTAV s.r.o, Ostrava ). In narrow, long rooms ( e.g. corridors ) we recommend max. length of diagonal for one dilatation area 7m. Profile Schluter – DILEX – MP+MPV profile Schluter – DILEX – EP+BWB Dilatation joint must be done in the whole layer of spreading concrete (as in picture above ) i.e. even under dilatation profile which is installed in the tiles. Suitable material is e.g. mirelon belts thick 2 x 8 mm. Dilatation joint must be done through all the width of the room, i.e. it without interrupting connected on the perimeter dilatation. Heating cables and mats ECOFLOOR must not lead across dilatation joints. If the cold connections lead across the dilatation joints, these must be put freely in the protection tube.
