Columbia Institute of Pharmacy organized
a Staff Development Program on
“Development, Valuation & Standardization
of Classic Indian Formulation” sponsored
by All India Council for Technical Education
from 6 th -17 th May 2012. The program was
inaugurated on 6 th May 2012 by Mr. K.
Subramaniam, Commissioner Food Safety,
Chief Controller Drugs & Secretary to Chief
Minister Chhattisgarh who was present as
Chief Guest. The scientific session started
from 7 th May 2012 which was attended
by number of well known speakers which
included Dr. Supratim Ray, Mr. Lokesh
Kumar Deb from Imphal (Manipur), Dr.
Biplab Kumar Dey from Guwahati (Assam),

QIP and summer Training
Programme on at MCOPs
AICTE (New Delhi) sponsored three
two-week QIPs from 28 th May to 8 th July
2012. Eight departments of MCOPS were
involved in the conduct of the QIP, with
each department getting up to 4-5 days to
conduct the programmes. Expert resource
persons from within the college or outside
will deliver special lectures or conduct
live demonstrations of procedures and
processes. Dr. H S Ballal (Pro Chancellor,
Manipal University) inaugurated the QIP.
Dr. N Udupa (Principal MCOPS) welcomed
the gathering.
Felicitation of retired Teachers
and supporting staff
During the Golden Jubilee Year, college
decided to felicitate former teachers and
retired supporting staff. The first of these
felicitation functions was conducted on
28 th May 2012. The teachers included

summer Training Programme
The XI Summer Training programme for
postgraduate students, co-ordinated by Dr.
P D Gupta (formerly of CCMB, Hyderabad)
and Dr. N Udupa, was inaugurated on 28th May 2012. Dr. H S Ballal inaugurated the
programme.
rajiv academy for
Pharmacy, Mathura
workshop organized
A workshop was organized at Rajiv
Academy for Pharmacy, Mathura to
disseminate the basic understanding of
manufacturing, packaging and sealing
of tablets, capsules, liquid & semisolid
dosage forms and suppositories. The
delegation of Indian Medical Association,
Mathura branch attended the workshop
Prof. Devender Pathak, Director, Rajiv
Academy for Pharmacy, Mathura welcomed
the delegation. The workshop was initiated
by Dr. Kamla Pathak, Dean & Head,
Department of Pharmaceutics. Dr. Devendra
Singh, IMA President, Dr. Bharti Garg
(General Physician), Scientific secretary,
IMA, Dr. Nagendra Gaur (Secretary IMA),
Dr. Ashish Gopal, diabetologist (State
representative), Dr. Shailendra Singh
(Representative, Central Zone, skin
specialist), Dr. Manoj Gupta (Treasurer),
Dr. Shobit Gupta (Orthopedic surgeon)
and others had a conjoint interactive
session. Mr. Vijay Sharma, Associate

Vignan Pharmacy College,

Vignan Pharmacy College has conducted
a two day National workshop on “Utility
of HPLC and NMR in Pharmaceutical
Research”. Dated 15.06.2012, Dr.
VenkatManohar, Director, Indian Institute
of Chromatography and Mass spectrometry
(IICMS) – Chennai, came as a chief guest
and said that after synthesizing a new
drug substance, its purity and the % of
impurity has to be determined, for doing so
the knowledge of high performance liquid
chromatography mass spectrometer (HPLC-
MS) and Nuclear magnetic resource (NMR)
spectro is necessary . Dr. P. SrinivasaBabu,
Principal, Vignan Pharmacy College, staff
and the 200 students have participated in
this workshop.
Uttarakhand Pharmacy Council
Release of first official magazine
‘elIXIr’
Uttarakhand Pharmacy Council released
first issue of their official magazine ‘ELIXIR’
on 20th May 2012 at Dehradun. Council
President Dr. Laxman Singh Rautela spoke
that this issue of ELIXIR was dedicated to
the first known pharmacist of Uttarakhand
state, Late Mr. Prajapati Joshi (1926-
1996). The magazine is edited by Mr.
Virendra Panwar, Member of council and
guest editor is Dr. Sangeeta Pilhwal Sah.
Magazine was released by Prof. Roop
K.Khar, Mr. G.S. Bedi, GM IDPL Rishikesh,
Dr. J.R.Dhyani, State Drug Analyst, in
presence of other dignitaries. Prof. Vijay
Juyal, Prof. Kumud Upadhyaya, Prof.
Firoz Anwar, Prof. P.P.Saini, Mr. Sanjeev
Narang, Prof. Rajindra, M.L.Joshi, Registrar,
S.S. Chauhan, Vice President were the
dignitaries who graced the occasion.

A Free Seminar on Career Opportunities
in Pharmacy Profession was conducted at
Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, Vadgaon
Campus in Pune on 25 th June 2012. The
welcome speech was given by Dr. K.N. Gujar,
Principal, Sinhgad College of Pharmacy. Dr.
Manjeet Singh, a Biopharm Consultant,
spoke about the contributions made by
pharmacists to the allied health care; Mr.
Rajeev Lochan, Director International
Regulatory Affairs, Serum Institute of India,
Pune spoke about Regulatory and Quality
Aspects in Pharma Industry; Mr. Vinayak
