This will allow you to compare the results of the two hearing aids. See Figure 4.1.3. When measuring a set of binaural hearing aids, both the phase and the delay graphs should match fairly closely. 4.2 Battery Current Test The Battery screen lets you perform extensive tests on the amount of battery current that the hearing aid uses. These tests were designed to give you a complete picture of the amount of battery current that the hearing aid drains when exposed to different situations. There are three primary tests: • Static Test: This test estimates the battery life of the hearing aid by presenting the hearing aid with a single static tone. • mA/Freq: This test measures battery current drain as a function of frequency. This shows how the battery current varies as you present the hearing aid with different frequencies. • mA/Ampl: This test measures battery current drain as a function of amplitude. This shows how the battery current varies as you present the hearing aid with different amplitudes. To run these tests, toggle the test status with [F4], [F5], and [F6], respectively. Pressing [START] will run the mA/Freq and mA/Ampl tests. The tests will automatically stop when finished. The Static test is always on when its status has been toggled to On. In order to perform these measurements, you need to insert a battery pill into the hearing aid, plug the battery pill into the sound chamber, and push the applicable button in the chamber. To enter the Battery screen, press [F3] from the Opening screen to enter the Advanced Coupler Navigation screen. Then press [F1] to enter the Battery Test screen. A short list of the functions of this screen can be displayed by pressing [HELP]. Note: Many hearing aids do not vary when exposed to signals of varying frequency and amplitude. For those hearing aids, you will see a flat horizontal line when running both the mA/Freq and mA/Ampl measurements.

Selected test settings. 4.2.1 Static Test (Estimated Battery Life) The Static test estimates the battery life of the hearing aid. To turn on the test: 1. Enter the Battery screen (as described above). 2. Use [F7] to set the battery size: Press [F7]. Use [∨, ∧] to select the battery size of the hearing aid. Use [>] to complete the selection and close the popup menu. 3. Use [F4] to toggle the Static Tone to On. The estimated battery life should now be displayed below the ma/Freq graph. See Figure 4.2. By default, this test uses a pure-tone stimulus of 1000 Hz at 60 dB SPL. The current source selections are shown in a box below the mA/Ampl graph on the right side of the screen. You can: • Change the source Type by using [F3]. Toggle between Puretone and Composite, • Change the source Amplitude by using [∨, ∧], and • Change the source Frequency by using []. This setting is only available when the soucre type is set to Puretone with [F3].
