as i refleCt on the previous year, it has been a very
successful time for the Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County.
our success is due to the dedication and teamwork of the Boys
& Girls Clubs’ staff, Board members, volunteers, and financial
supporters. Without this well-equipped team, the past year’s
achievements would not have been possible.
This year marked the 40 th anniversary of service provided by
the Boys & Girls Clubs in Wake County. since 1967, tens
of thousands of children and teenagers have walked through
our doors and more will come as we continue improving the
community we serve.
We began the year with two new Clubs, the Brentwood Boys &
Girls Club and the teen Center. Both Clubs focus on a segment
of our community’s population that has been underserved. The
Brentwood Club was organized to bring the services provided
by our organization to Wake County’s growing Hispanic community,
and the teen Center provides a continuum of services to
our community’s growing teen population. The success of these
two clubs has exceeded our expectations.
This year, we were fortunate to receive two large grants to help
with the program costs of these new Clubs. The first is a threeyear
grant that will support the Hispanic outreach initiative at
the Brentwood Boys & Girls Club. The second grant is a five-year
commitment from the Continuous Blessings foundation that
will help grow and support a much-needed new Boys & Girls
Club facility in Zebulon.
like many Board Chairs before me, i have had the pleasure of
serving with one of the most vibrant and active volunteer Boards
within Wake County. Without their dedication, guidance, and
support, the Boys & Girls Clubs would not be where it is today.

Council voted our Board of Directors the “High Performance
Board team of the year.” in addition, the Board was recognized
by the Boys & Girls Clubs of america as the “southeast region’s
top Board team.”
We are also very fortunate to have one of the best staffs in our
country. This year, the staff earned three marketing and communication
awards at the national Boys & Girls Club Conference.
and, our Club kids didn’t lag behind; they were well represented
in the art competitions, with six regional winners and one
national winner.
Congratulations to all of our Board members, staff, and Club
kids for their display of talent and ability.
This success is due to the amazing efforts of our many volunteers
and supporters throughout Wake County. let me express
my gratitude to each and every one of you for your continuing
support. Please know that you are making a difference in the
lives of many children in our community. your support in the
past and in the years to come will ensure that each child who
comes to the Boys & Girls Clubs will have the opportunity to
reach his or her full potential and become a productive citizen of
our society. on behalf of the 4,032 children and teens that you
have served this year, thank you for all that you do.
