tommy turner is 2008 youtH <strong>of</strong> tHe year<br />
to tommy, winning the youth <strong>of</strong> the year award is all about selffulfillment<br />
and helping others. He volunteered for three years<br />
straight in order to reach the youth <strong>of</strong> the year achievement and<br />
is now employed by the Club as a member <strong>of</strong> the Junior staff. in<br />
2008, tommy contributed more than 1,000 hours <strong>of</strong> community<br />
service. When asked why he believes in volunteerism, tommy<br />
said, “Community service is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> every man and<br />
woman to ensure the enrichment <strong>of</strong> our future and open a wide<br />
door <strong>of</strong> opportunity.”<br />

youth <strong>of</strong> the year program<br />
for six consecutive years.<br />
Besides tommy turner,<br />
18, from Zebulon <strong>Boys</strong><br />
& <strong>Girls</strong> Club as the over-<br />
youth <strong>of</strong> the year finalists<br />
all winner, other finalists<br />
selected were: Caitlin Hooks, 16, <strong>Wake</strong> forest <strong>Boys</strong> & <strong>Girls</strong><br />
Club; Wyshika turner, 16, Washington elementary <strong>Boys</strong> & <strong>Girls</strong><br />
Club; Diamond Dunn, 14, raleigh <strong>Girls</strong> Club; robert Green, 15,<br />
raleigh <strong>Boys</strong> Club; and Jevon Hodge, 15, teen Center.<br />
In <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>County</strong> 1,362 youth had trouble with the law in 2007.<br />
At our <strong>Boys</strong> & <strong>Girls</strong> <strong>Clubs</strong> we keep kids positively involved in<br />
the community; 387 members actively volunteer, contributing<br />
thousands <strong>of</strong> hours to the well-being <strong>of</strong> our community.
