For guard rail, a 200mm buffer should<br />

be added from its placement on the<br />

footway. At some locations people<br />

wait around the guard rail (near<br />

building entrances, tourist areas) and<br />

this static activity can reduce the clear<br />

footway width further.<br />

Where loading bay stops are delimited<br />

with a kerb, pedestrians only use<br />

the main footway section. There<strong>for</strong>e<br />

the clear footway width is from the<br />

building line to the kerb with the<br />

normal buffer.<br />
