ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to first thank my advisor and chair of my committee, Dr. Stefano
D’Amico. I first discovered my passion for Arberesh history in his class. His enthusiasm
and both broad and deep knowledge of Italian history, sparked my imagination, held my
interest, and inspired me to pursue my own research on Scanderbeg and the Albanian
community of Southern Italy.
I would also like to thank Dr. Aliza Wong, who enriched my thesis with her
comments and help. She patiently guided me these past two years through many papers
and a thesis. Her kindness and understanding enabled me to start and (remain) on the path
of the researcher. I am grateful to both committee members for expanding my historical
knowledge, and allowing me to proceed in new directions with my research.
I also thank Texas Tech University’s History department for giving me the
opportunity to come to Lubbock, Texas and pursue this degree. The department’s
knowledgeable, helpful and friendly history faculty generated a wonderful learning
environment.
Finally, I dedicate this work to my parents overseas, and Darrell and Ruth in Vale.
None of this would be possible without them. I stand in awe of their selflessness,
