Due to the renewed interest on innov ativ e way s to conv ert the existing f uel reserv es with improv ed technologies like gasif ication, PID Eng&Tech has worked in collaboration with important researches in the f ield of gasif ication in order to dev elop the most versatile pilot plant existing in the market nowaday s. Its v ersatility and complete automatization, allows the user to determine optimal experimental conditions and detecting possible operational problem in industrial gasif iers. The most outstanding f eature of the plant is its feeding system (pending patent), which has been dev eloped by PID Eng&Tech and can f eed up to 1.5 kg/h of diff erent solids and mixtures in an homogenous, constant and reproducible way. The design of the sy stem prev ents hot gases f rom entering in the feeding hopper, which would ruin the experiment. FEATURES: Fluidized Reactor The reactor is div ided in reactor zone and f reeboard zone. The operating homogeneous temperature is up to 900ºC. • Reactor zone is Ø = 3” and length = 750 mm. Freeboard zone is Ø = 5” and length = 630 mm. • The pressure is measured drop inside reactor, f or f luidization speed determination. • Particle remov al sy stem is installed to collect char and ashes f rom bed in continuous during the experiments. • The radiant ty pe f urnace reaches 1000ºC and has t wo zones to improv e the unif orm temperature. Gasifying agent inlets • Gases streams f or f luidize the bed and gasify are preheated up to 600ºC. • Water is f ed by means of an alternativ e positiv e displacement pump and v aporized up to 600ºC. Feeding system Continuous and non-f luctuation solid f eeding sy stem consists of 10 litres hopper and two screw f eeders. The solid f low is constant f rom 0.2 to 1.5 Kg/h. • A nitrogen f low will continuously flush the dosing screw, promoting the motion of the solids. Cyclones Automated and computerized laboratory-pilot plant for the study of gasification process. • Two cy clones connected in series and heated up to 400ºC, allow remov ing solid particles f rom gas stream. Products treatment • A SS316 Shell and multitube heat exchanger is used to cool the hot gases and condense tar and steam. A f ilter allows cleaning product gas. 18 Scrubbers and gas meter • As optional, a wet gas scrubber is used to remov e contaminants, and a wet gas meter is used to outlet stream measurement. Control system • The process v ariables are controlled by independent PID controllers. • A Programmable Logic Controller controls the alarms of the plant, launching the corresponding actions in case of failure. • The sof tware is responsible of process monitorization, data acquisition and registration and experiment automation.
EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS This system is a v ery versatile pilot plant which allows researching v ery diff erent feeding and experimental conditions, such as temperature, gas f low in bed, air f low, residence time, pressure, particle size… PROCESS@ SOFTWARE GASIFICATION PILOT PLANT PI DIAGRAM The plant is f ully instrumented and each v ariable is automatically controlled. Saf ety system is superv ising the operation of the pilot plant. 19 The pilot plant includes process sy stem and electronic control system. All these sy stems are consisting on a distributed control based on PC that has the Process@ software, based on digital RS-485 communications between controllers and management control system f or superv isory control and data acquisition. All sy stem is operated automatically and manually and all display s are f itted on a control panel board. SOLID DOSAGE
