115. I should esteem it a great favor if you would expound
the following: Matt. 13:37-43; 26:26-30, 54, 55,56. Also Jesus'
words in the 24th chapter of Matthew in answer to the question
contained in the 3rd verse of same chapter. — MRS. E. L. F.
(Malt. 13:37-43.) Jesus was teaching his disciples
the nature of the kingdom of heaven, pointing
his teaching by the use of parables, among which
was that of the tares. The disciples, not understanding
this parable, came to him for an explanation
which he gave in the words contained in the verses
referred to. In seeking the inner meaning of Jesus'
interpretation of the parable, and applying it to the
individual consciousness, we see that the field is the
world of our mentality; the seed is our thoughts,
which, when true and good, are the "children of the
kingdom," or, the thoughts of the Christ-mind,
which is in us; and when not the true and right
thoughts, are the children of ignorance, " the wicked
one." The sower is the intellect, which, when
illuminated by the spirit of Truth, becomes the Son
of Man, and when in the darkness of ignorance and
error becomes the devil. The end of the world is
the end of that state or plane of consciousness in
which we recognize both good and evil, and when all
belief in evil is destroyed by the purifying fires of
Truth and Love.
(Matt. 26:26-30.) These verses are a description
of what is called the last supper, and in the language
of symbology an important lesson is taught. The
disciples typify the faculties of the mind; the bread
and wine are symbols of the substance and the life of
Spirit, which all must incorporate into every
division or plane of active knowing. Jesus' life,
which was lived for man, (blood of the new testament,
shed for many,) is the new testamony of the
power for righteousness which an understanding of
