A Great Legacy for the Country The great transformations that occurred in this decade on Brazil will have new impulse with the World Cup Soccer and an Olympic Games edition, during the interval of two years. The chance to project the country for the world, to build the idea of modernization, the ability to host great events, combined with the already known natural and cultural beauties of the country, will make Brazil one of the major tourist destinations of the world up to 2020. For the Ministry of the Tourism, planning is the keyword to win the challenges that we will have ahead in order to take advantage of this chance. An essential part of this planning, which being finishing now, is the release of the Aquarela Plan 2020 – it’s goals is to make Brazil be seen before, during and after the great sporting events, as a tourist destination abroad and, beyond increasing the flow of foreign tourists, stimulating the amount of time spent in Brazil, the visits to new destinations that will show up with the great exposition that we will have in the international media. The most important target is to bring more progress throughout the country, generate job and income, and giving the contribution of the tourism for the diminution of the regional inequalities. 4 On the other side, the planning actions of the Ministry of Tourism are focused on the qualification and promotion of domestic tourism. Several actions are already in progress, such as Olá Turista program, who must train eighty thousand people in the English and Spanish languages, only in 2010. Our aim is also the great domestic market for the tourism, stimulating the Brazilians to travel inside in the country during the events, getting to know the host cities and regional routes that are being developed for the events. The schemed works of infrastructure will bring new quality for urban mobility, road extensions, airports and stations. These issues affect directly the tourism and will be consisted of great legacies for the country. A lot have been done such as Prodetur, a considerable program in the tourism infrastructure that enhances accessibility, tourism signaling, sanitation, historical heritage and border conditions. US$ 2,3 billion in investments will help Brazil receive, with all the infrastructure and necessary qualification, thousands of Brazilians and foreign tourists in the next decade. Luiz Barretto Ministry of Tourism December 2009 Unveiled Brazil The transformation of sporting events as the World Cup and the Olympic Games in shows transmitted for the whole world also changed its meaning for the country and the city that hosts them. Today, these huge events are capable of transforming cities, raising up tourism and other fields of the economy and producing an improved, extended and consolidated image as inheritance to the country. Brazil will not be the same after hosting, the World Cup and Olympic Games. Up to 2016, there will be seven years of great investments in infrastructure, mobility, environmental projects, staff qualification, and renewal of some urban areas - many of them have already been initiated. We will have the great chance to show to world, a still unknown nation in all its diversity for the billions of people who will see these events on TV, internet, newspapers and magazines. These spectators will not only see the competitions, but also be exposed to the culture, the Brazilian way of life, the most important touristic attractions, full of various landscapes… Brazil will have plenty of time before, during and after the World Cup and the Olympic Games to promote all its diversity, its capacity to host great events, its new economic and political position to the world. 5 Brazil will take part in history as a successful participant in the accomplishment of both the World Cup Soccer and the Olympics Games - events that will be remembered for the great technological connectivity, the importance of the internet as information supplier in a way that has been seen before and also for the acknowledgement of Brazil and the South America in a new position in the global scenario. Tourism will therefore, harvest, more fruits than any other. EMBRATUR gives its contribution for this process with the Aquarela Plan 2020 that not only involves the government, but all Brazilian society. Supported by research, studies and the well- succeeded experience of six years as an international touristic promoter, offers, the planning, the strategy and the major actions to work with the promotion and the image of Brazil as touristic destination for the next decade. When offering to the country a consistent plan for the next decade, EMBRATUR renews its commitment to passionate and professional work in order to develop tourism in Brazil, contributing to the job creation, income and chances for all the regions.
