LIANE MCKENNA, [1] our <strong>CSLA</strong> Presi<strong>de</strong>nt,<br />

has recently retired from the Vancouver<br />

Park Board where, as Director of Parks and<br />

Recreation, she focused on environmental<br />

issues on public lands, expansion of park<br />

programming, and community and facility<br />

<strong>de</strong>velopment for the 2010 Winter Olympics.<br />

She is a current member of the Accreditation<br />

MALAKA ACKAOUI [2] is a principal partner<br />

and founding member of WAA inc. She has<br />

been practicing Landscape Architecture<br />

since 1980. Malaka directed the Sun Island<br />

rehabilitation project in 2004-2005 and<br />

contributed to the creation of the 2006-2007<br />

snow festival in Harbin, featuring Canada.<br />

SUE SIRRS [3] is a principal with Outsi<strong>de</strong>!<br />

Planning and Design Studio in Halifax, a<br />

small firm <strong>de</strong>dicated to leading-edge work<br />

in environmental planning and landscape<br />

architecture. She has worked on several<br />

projects at the NSCC Waterfront Campus<br />

over the last six years.<br />

JILL ROBERTSON, [4] OALA, is an arborist,<br />

LEED green associate, and director of<br />

planning at Ekistics Planning and Design in<br />

Dartmouth, NS. Having just returned from<br />

maternity leave, she enjoys an off -balance<br />

existence combining work and family. She is<br />

currently the secretary-treasurer for APALA.<br />

PETER SOLAND [5] is an architect and<br />

landscape architect. His urban <strong>de</strong>sign<br />

ANDREW BURTON ANDERSON [6] is<br />

the first landscape architect to combine<br />

an un<strong>de</strong>rgraduate <strong>de</strong>gree in landscape<br />

architecture with a UNESCO Master of<br />

Science in World Heritage Management.<br />

He is currently collaborating with a team to<br />

<strong>de</strong>velop the Oman Botanic Gar<strong>de</strong>n, the world’s<br />

first large-scale botanic gar<strong>de</strong>n <strong>de</strong>dicated<br />

exclusively to one region. Slowly but surely,<br />

he is starting to <strong>de</strong>velop a taste for fresh<br />

DANIEL K. GLENN [7] is a New Brunswicker by<br />

birth. As principal of Glenn Group Ltd., he has<br />

prepared numerous tourism and recreationoriented<br />

assembled and directed teams of consultants<br />

in various supporting disciplines. He is past<br />

presi<strong>de</strong>nt of APALA and has served on the<br />

RON WILLIAMS, F<strong>CSLA</strong>, AAPQ, FRAIC,<br />

[10] a longtime professor at the École<br />

d’architecture <strong>de</strong> paysage of the Université<br />

<strong>de</strong> Montréal, co-foun<strong>de</strong>d WAA (Williams,<br />

Asselin, Ackaoui and associates). Ron<br />

participated in many of the fi rm’s awardwinning<br />

projects including the Montreal<br />

Beach Park. In 2007, he was honoured with<br />

the <strong>CSLA</strong> Lifetime Achievement Award.<br />

a Masters of Landscape Architecture from<br />

Guelph University and Masters of Liberal Arts<br />

in Environmental Management from Harvard<br />

University. She lives and works in Cambridge,<br />

ALAN TATE, MALA, <strong>CSLA</strong>, PPLI [12] and<br />

Chair of the <strong>CSLA</strong> Awards of Excellence<br />

Program, is a Professor at the University of<br />

Manitoba. He is a former presi<strong>de</strong>nt of the<br />

Landscape Institute, and recently completed<br />

his PhD in Architecture, seeking to <strong>de</strong>velop<br />

a comprehensive typology of urban open<br />

RONALD MIDDLETON [13] worked for<br />

over 30 years in the field of environmental<br />

impact assessment and environmental<br />

management with the Government of<br />

Alberta, and also lectured for 10 years at the<br />

University of Alberta. He now consults on<br />

large scale projects, and reads way too many<br />

books on Taoist and Buddhist philosophy.<br />
