On 18 April, the Villa MEISSEN ® opened in Milan.
What is the idea behind the showroom?
The Villa MEISSEN ® is – in contrast to many other
flagship stores of luxury brands – not only a salesroom,
but also and above all a place where the various
MEISSEN ® brand worlds become a tangible experience
for every visitor. For me, the first priority is authenticity,
style and values, followed by the presentation
of special product designs. The Villa MEISSEN ®
should be seen more as an experience-oriented location,
similar to a small luxury hideaway.
A place of encounters, in other words?
Definitely! We intend to establish a variety of events
on themes such as art, architecture and design and
bring together interesting people.
How did you choose the building – what were your
criteria?
We, that is MEISSEN ® Italia, were very specific
about the kind of building we wanted. The Villa is
located on the exclusive Milan shopping street Via
Montenapoleone. The Casa Carcassola-Grandi is
one of the most historically important private buildings
in Milan and has its roots in the 16th century. It
has remarkable architectural and listed elements,
such as the striking entrance portal by the famous
Italian architect Gio Ponti and the artistic ceiling
paintings. This historic building already embodies
the essential values that characterise the heart of the
MEISSEN ® brand.
And why Milan?
For one thing, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile,
the most important interiors trade fair in the world,
takes place here. It was during this trade fair that we
actually opened the Villa MEISSEN ® . And Milan is
also a city that stands for craftsmanship as well as contemporary
design. In a nutshell, the perfect location.
Art, jewellery and interiors made by MEISSEN ® :
on over 350 sq. m., the Villa MEISSEN ® presents
European luxury and lifestyle in eight themed rooms.
A place for all the senses which enables tradition and
modernity to complement each other perfectly.
What can visitors expect to see at the Villa
MEISSEN ® ?
We have lovingly restored and renovated the building.
In eight themed rooms that cover a surface area of
350 sq. m., visitors can immerse themselves in an atmosphere
of timeless elegance and discreet European
luxury and experience the three brand worlds of
MEISSEN ® : Fine Art, Joaillerie and HOME.
Will visitors also be able to see the new MEISSEN
HOME ® Collection here?
Yes, MEISSEN ® Italia launched the new MEISSEN
HOME® Collectibles range to coincide with the
opening of the Villa MEISSEN ® , the first place in the
world this collection has been shown – although this
is not really a collection, more a timeless and elegant
ensemble of collector’s items for upmarket interiors
that have been carefully matched in terms of styles
and colours. The artistically handcrafted sofas, armchairs,
tables, lamps and table porcelain, as well as the
luxurious materials, upholstery and accessories, take
visitors on a journey through the classic modernity of
the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and have much in
common with the design approach of Maison Jansen,
David Hicks and the “Little Black Dress” interior
range by Susanne Trocmé.
What does it actually look like in reality?
To preserve authenticity, the MEISSEN HOME ®
Collectibles are not presented on their own as abstract
objects, but as part of an atmospheric interior
within the various rooms of the Villa – starting with
the entrance hall, living room and dining room.
Is there a basic premise underlying the collection?
Of course! As with the successful design of the
MEISSEN ® Joaillerie line by the Milanese Creative
Director Ornella Pasquetti, whose wonderful creations
are presented in their own boudoir in the Villa,
great importance was placed right from the start on
making sure that each piece in the HOME Collectibles
range embodies MEISSEN ® DNA.
What makes up this DNA?
In designing this range, our Creative Director Markus
Hilzinger was heavily influenced by our comprehensive
archive of shapes and decorations, which spans
four centuries. A touch of the unique artistic and cultural
history of the manufactory is thus present in
every single piece – starting with the interlinking of
European and Asian design elements which has characterised
the manufactory’s pieces ever since its foundation.
What is the range’s main aim?
The HOME Collectibles range reflects our personal
interpretation of discreet European luxury. This is
characterised primarily by a simple and timelessly
elegant design language and the high quality of the
materials and finishes, which is particularly evident
when you look closely at the detail. This luxury is
understated but contemporary, especially when
compared to the “loud” luxury of the European
Baroque period.
What is your personal favourite piece?
I love the screens with their unique hand-painted patterns
on silk created by our skilled artisans.
What does the Villa MEISSEN ® mean for the
MEISSEN ® brand? What does it mean to you personally?
For me, it is a very emotional moment. It is the first
time in our history that visitors and guests to the Villa
MEISSEN ® can experience the essence and soul of our
300-year-old manufactory and its handmade luxury.
And I think it’s an important moment in our long history.
It underlines our desire to be an important international
German luxury brand. And it is the start of
the continued global expansion of MEISSEN ® .
A place of encounters. A place of experience.
A place of astonishment. In the
Villa
visitors go on a journey through the
300-year history of MEISSEN ® and learn
what characterises timeless elegance.
Yesterday, today and for all time.
