Admission Dates and Fees
Applications for admission are due by the following dates:
Summer: April 1 Spring: November 15
Fall: July 1
Applications from individuals who are not citizens or permanent resi-
dents of the Unlted States must be accompanied by a non-refundable
$50 check or money order (US. dollars) made payable to The Univer-
sity of Texas at El Paso. ALL admission documents for international
students rnust be received before the above deadline dates.
A non-relundable 515 late fee is required of US. cilizens and per-
manent residents who submit undergraduate applicat~ons after the
dates noted above. NO APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION FOR A
SPECIFIC SEMESTER WILL BE PROCESSED ONCE REGISRATION
FOR THAT SEMESTER HAS BEGUN.
Admission Policies and Procedures
The documents that rnust be submitted lor admission to the Univer-
sity are determined by an individual's academic background, and all
regularly admitted students must demonstrate adequate English ability
that will enable them to successfully pursue university level work. All
non-residents of the United Statesshould consult the INTERNATIONAL
STUDENT ADMISSION section to determ~ne wh~ch documents are
required lor admission
The file of an applicant whose academic background does not fall
into one of the categories below will be caretully reviewed by the Office
of Admission and Evaluation and the applicant will be notified of the
appropriate documents requ~red.
All documents must be submined directly to the Office of Admis.

the schools involved: official test scores should be sent directly from

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAQ or American College Test (ACT) I

PROVISIONAL ADMISSION

ments described above are eligible for admission to the Univers~ty
on a trtal basis under the Provisional Adm~ssion Program. Prov!sional
students must take prescribed courses, rnust attend New Student
Orienlation, rnust be advised by a faculty member in the Academic
Advisina Center, and must take a free, non-credit Studv Skills course.
To clear provisional slatus, a provisional student mdst complete at
least 9 hours with grades ot "Pass" or "C" or better in each course
selected lrom at least two of lhe following areas: English; Mathematics;
Natural Science; Foreign Language; Reading Education: Political
Science, History, Sociology, Psychology. Anthropology, or Speech. An
overall "C" (2.0) average must also be maintained.
If the student does not earn the overall 2.0 grade point average in
the appropriate courses dur~ng the first semester of enrollment but
has at least a 1.5 GPA, an add~tional semester in which to remove
provisional status will be allowed. At the end of the second semester,
Ihe cumulative GPA rnust be a 2.0 in all courses taken, there rnust
be a "C" In each required course. and all course criteria musf have
