The sludent must attach to this lorm the following: a current transcript, a degree plan for students who have completed s~xty hours or more, and the student's own wrltten explanation of the circumstances wh~ch brouoht about the ineligibility. 2. All items are forwarded to the Financial Aid Internal Review (FAIR) Comm~ttee through the Off~ce of Student Financial Aid. This program is available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Long-Term Loan Repayment information The long-lerm educational loans ava~lable through the Onlce of Student Flnancial Aid have many repayment benefits of which the pro- SPeCtlve borrower should be aware. All of these loans defer payment while the borrower is enrolled in a course of study at least half-time. Loans may not be released and remaining loan amounts will be cancelled il the borrower drops below half-time. Repayment 1s made on a monthly basis, over a per~od not exceeding ten (10) years. Please refer to the most current Flnancial Aid brochure for repayment information. Emergency Loans Student emergency loan funds are maintamed to assist students who are temporar~ly in need of funds. All regularly enrolled students who do not have an outstanding emergency loan are el~gible. Loans must be repaid during lhe semester in which the loan is obtained. Interest charged on these loans is $50 or 10% per loan, whichever is greater. Student Book Loan Program A Student Book Loan Program is maintained to assist students in meeting their book costs. A book loan may not exceed one hundred ($100.00) dollars and must be repaid durlng the semester in which the loan is obta~ned. lnlerest on this loan is $10 a year with a minimum service charge of fihy ($50) cents. Any student enrolled at this institution who does not already have an outstanding book loan is eliglble to apply for thls loan. Most of these awards are reserved lor incom~ng freshmen with outstanding academic credentials. Since 1980 the Presidential Program scholarships have attracted to UT El Paso many exceptional students. Tuition Waiver A Texas restdent who can prove financ~al hardship may be awarded a waiver in the amount of the tuition portton ot the tuition and fees. Presldential Excellence Scholarships A.S.8.000 awards over a four-year period ($2,000 per year) Blnitial Eligibility: Recipients of the Presldential Excellence Scholarshlps will be selected by the Scholarship Committee from the pool of students eligible for the $1,500 Presidential Scholar. sh~p (see 11). In addition to meeting the criter~a for the Presidential Scholarship, students selected for the Pres~dential Excellence award must also demonstrate evldence of exceptional leadership ab~lities and achievement.
