Jennifer Redicker ’08 and<br />

Donald Shoemaker married on<br />

July 3, 2010. After a honeymoon<br />

to Whistler, British Columbia,<br />

and Vancouver Island, the couple<br />

are residing in Brownstown, Ind.<br />

Jennifer is a math teacher at<br />

Salem High School. Donald is a<br />

self-employed farmer and also<br />

works for Beck Ag Marketing.<br />

Sara Banta ’09 and Jonathan<br />

Galbraith ’10 married on<br />

July 11, 2010 in <strong>Franklin</strong>’s<br />

Province Park rose garden. Sara<br />

is a teacher at Central Middle<br />

School in Columbus, Ind., and<br />

Jonathan is a teacher at Hauser<br />

High School in Hope, Ind.<br />

Austin Gorrell ’09 made<br />

central Indiana news when he<br />

achieved a hole-in-one at the<br />

Humane Society of Johnson<br />

County’s Critter Classic golf event<br />

at the Legends of Indiana in<br />

August. His prize: A 2011 BMW<br />

135 convertible. According to<br />

news reports, he was using a set<br />

of clubs borrowed from a friend<br />

and used an 8-iron for his drive<br />

on the 161-yard, par 3 hole.<br />

Jacob Keeton ’09 joined the<br />

<strong>Franklin</strong> <strong>College</strong> AmeriCorps<br />

program during his senior year<br />

in college and was placed with<br />

the Johnson County Community<br />

Organizations Active in Disaster<br />

group. Jacob helped the<br />

group with flood recovery and<br />

reconstruction, often helping<br />

lead volunteer groups. After<br />

graduation, Jacob decided to<br />

continue in the AmeriCorps<br />

program full time at JCCOAD.<br />

More recently, he joined the<br />

AmeriCorps Vista program,<br />

making a one-year commitment<br />

to assist the state of Louisiana<br />

with the aftermath of the oil spill.<br />

Samantha Macy ’09 and David<br />

Stubbs married on Dec. 31, 2009.<br />

The couple reside in<br />

Indianapolis.<br />

Dan Schumerth ’10 is working as<br />

a sports writer for The Union<br />

County Advocate newspaper in<br />

Morganfield, Ky.<br />

Cole Zook ’10 is an assistant<br />

football coach at Edinburgh<br />

(Ind.) High School.<br />

The ’30s<br />

Elizabeth “Betty” (Myers)<br />

Edwards ’33 died July 21, 2010.<br />

She was a member of Second<br />

Presbyterian Church, where<br />

she held numerous volunteer<br />

positions, ranging from bazaar<br />

chairwoman, president of the<br />

women’s club, Sunday school<br />

teacher and children’s music<br />

director. She also sang in the<br />

adult choir in addition to playing<br />

the piano and organ. She<br />

volunteered with the Indiana<br />

Women’s Prison and received a<br />

recognition award for her<br />

service. She was preceded in<br />

death by her husband, Albert.<br />

Survivors include a son. She was<br />

a resident of Indianapolis.<br />

Naoma P. (Cowan) Hefner ’37<br />

died Oct. 5, 2010. She was a<br />

graduate of Arsenal Technical<br />

High School in Indianapolis and<br />

attended <strong>Franklin</strong> <strong>College</strong>. She<br />

was a manager for UNEK Craft<br />

& Gift Store and had been a<br />

hostess at Holiday Inn, both in<br />

Macomb, Ill. She retired in 1980.<br />

She was a member of First<br />

Baptist Church. She was an avid<br />

fan of the Chicago Cubs, Purdue<br />

University basketball and the<br />

Indianapolis Colts. She was preceded<br />

in death by her husband,<br />

Charles. She was a resident of<br />

Lafayette, Ind.<br />

Margaret (Wise) Skomp ’38<br />

died June 16, 2010. She was a<br />

homemaker and a member<br />

of Tri Delta and Tri Kappa<br />

sororities. She was preceded in<br />

death by her husband, William.<br />

Survivors include two sons. She<br />

was a resident of <strong>Franklin</strong>, Ind.<br />

Robert “Bob” I. Foist ’39 died<br />

Sept, 10, 2010. Prior to retiring<br />

as a U.S. Army lieutenant<br />

colonel, he served in World<br />

War II, the Korean War and<br />

the Vietnam War. He also<br />

served as an Army and Air Force<br />

recruiting supervisor. His<br />

military awards included the<br />

Legion of Merit, Bronze Star<br />

with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal<br />

with three oak leaf clusters and<br />

Vietnam Service Medal with<br />

four battle stars. He was active<br />

in the <strong>Franklin</strong> community as a<br />

member of First Baptist Church,<br />

American Legion Post 205,<br />

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post<br />

7119, Elks Lodge 1818, Moose<br />

Lodge 17 and the Audubon<br />

Society Bluebird Project at<br />

Smock Golf Course. He was a<br />

past secretary of Hillview<br />

Country Club and the Indiana<br />

State Seniors Golf Association.<br />

Bob also was past varsity golf<br />

coach at <strong>Franklin</strong> <strong>College</strong>, from<br />

1974 to 1979. Survivors include<br />

a son, a daughter, four grandchildren<br />

and 11 great-grandchildren.<br />

He was a resident of<br />

<strong>Franklin</strong>, Ind.<br />

Albert A. McLean ’39 died<br />

Aug. 30, 2010, after a brief<br />

illness. After his high school<br />

graduation, Albert worked for a<br />

bank in Kentucky, where he<br />

became acquainted with Roger<br />

D. Branigin ’23, then an attorney<br />

and later Indiana governor.<br />

Roger encouraged him to go to<br />

college and was responsible for<br />

his enrolling in <strong>Franklin</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>. After earning his<br />

bachelor’s degree, Albert<br />

entered the University of<br />

Tennessee Dental School in<br />

Memphis. When the United<br />

States entered World War II,<br />

the Army took over the dental<br />

school, and upon graduation<br />

Albert was commissioned an<br />

officer in the U. S. Army Air<br />

Corps, in which he served as a<br />

dentist in the Dental Corps<br />

until the end of the war. He was<br />

discharged honorably with the<br />

rank of captain and served for<br />

some years in the reserves. He<br />

operated a private practice in<br />

dentistry for 40 years and was a<br />

member of the Memphis and<br />

Tennessee dental societies.<br />

For over 60 years he served<br />

faithfully as deacon, then elder<br />
