I am no stranger to change. My first job relocated me to six different offices/locations in five years across Austin. It’s not unusual to get calls from people who know me well asking for directions since I’ve worked or lived in every corridor of the greater Austin area from San Marcos to Leander. Once again change is in the air. I helped launch the northwest Austin edition of Community Impact Newspaper two and a half years ago and have enjoyed bringing a sense of community to your neighborhood. I’ve especially enjoyed receiving your feedback and visiting with residents and business owners who understand and appreciate what we’re doing. In the meantime the success we’ve experienced in northwest Austin has resulted in other Austin areas clamoring for their Community Impact 4 Northwest Austin Community Events 5 Upcoming events Business Profiles 6 North Oaks Country Child Development Center Day care is home away from home 7 Clean Scapes Professional landscapers keep local landmarks maintained Transportation Report 9 Lakewood Drive City and County Notes 10 News from recent meetings At the Capitol 11 State lawmakers reform measurements of schools, students Neighborhood Dining 12 Pizza Guide Local pizza restaurants around northwest Austin Nonprofit Profile 14 Bikers Against Child Abuse Bikers band together to protect children Local History 15 Limestone quarries Community Corridor 17 FM 2222: Capital of Texas Hwy. to Jester Blvd. Regional Report 18 Nearby attractions General Manager’s Note Contents Distribution Community Profile 21 Daniel Garcia John B. It’s this significant growth that allows new opportunities within our organization, and in August I will embark upon a new adventure as general manager for our Central Austin edition. I will continue to see many of you at business events, and we will remain as former neighbors who have moved away. It’s inevitable that I’ll be sitting in traffic with some of you along US 183 and MoPac on my route to downtown. The only change in your next edition is the face that will bring you this note. I hope you’ll welcome the new general manager with your feedback and suggestions.
