Jessie M. (Watson) Cummins, a<br />

Columbus, Indiana, resident, reports<br />

that her grandson Joseph Meek is<br />

attending <strong>ICU</strong>. Joe is a junior political<br />

science major.<br />

‘34<br />

Joseph Brice, son of Kenneth F. Brice,<br />

was unanimously elected as “Bandmaster<br />

of the Year” for the state of Colorado.<br />

A. Glen O’Dell has recently been<br />

appointed by Gov. Robert D. Orr to the<br />

Indiana State Commission on the Aged<br />

and Aging for a four-year term. Much<br />

involved in that field, he is presently a<br />

member of the Board of Directors of<br />

Johnson County Council on Agmg as<br />

well as the Greenwood Senior Citizens’<br />

Center. He represents his county on the<br />

Advisory Council of the Central Indiana<br />

Council on Aging. He was recently elected<br />

president of Central Indiana United<br />

Senior Action, a political action<br />

organization of 8000 members. In mid-<br />

June he was assigned to the staff of the<br />

growing Mt. Auburn United Methodist<br />

Church as Director of Senior Ministries.<br />

He and his wife, Gladys, live in<br />

Greenwood, a southern suburb of<br />

Indianapolis.<br />

Kenneth M. Richter, retired professor<br />

emeritus from the University of Oklahoma<br />

School of Medicine, is the father of four<br />

and the grandfather of 12 (6 grandsons<br />

and 6 granddaughters). “All sons and<br />

grandchildren doing well!! So am I.”<br />

At the close of the 1983-84 school year,<br />

Helen (Ringley) Brady retired from<br />

teaching. For the past 29 years, she<br />

taught elementary art at Westlake School<br />

in Indianapolis. She and husband<br />

Malcolm plan to enjoy their leisure and<br />

help with work in the church. ‘Ihe Bradys<br />

are the parents of two boys, both who<br />

attended <strong>ICU</strong> in the early 60s.<br />

Eulala (Graham) Roettger, a retired<br />

department chairperson and social<br />

studies teacher at Connersville Junior<br />

High School, will be spending the 1984-<br />

85 school year at McCurdy School in<br />

Espanola, New Mexico, doing volunteer<br />

work.<br />

’40<br />

Dwight L Smith, professor of history<br />

at Miami University (Ohio), retired after<br />

30 years of service. Smith is author of<br />

‘The History of Canada,” a bibliography<br />

of the history and social science literature<br />

on Canada published in hundreds of<br />

professional journals throughout the<br />

world from 1973-78. It is the eighth<br />

volume on American and Canadian<br />

history that Smith has contributed to the<br />

Clio Bibliography Series.<br />

Congratulations to Sherman A Cravens<br />

and wife Marjorie on their 50th wedding<br />

anniversary. The Cravens’ celebrated<br />

with an open house on June 30 hosted<br />

by members of their family. Dr. Cravens<br />

is a retired United Methodist Minister<br />

and Mrs. Cravens was employed by<br />

United Methodist Communications at<br />

the time of their retirement. They live in<br />

Indianapolis.<br />

After 47 years of teaching fifth and sixth<br />

grades at Lapel School, Theodosia<br />

Everly has retired. She is a resident of<br />

Lapel, Indiana.<br />

Robert B. Hanni, president of the State<br />

and Savings Bank of Monticello, has<br />

been appointed to the 1 1-member State<br />

Board of Education by Governor<br />

Robert D. Orr.<br />

Ivan Moreman retired from IPS as<br />

assistant dean of boys at Tech High<br />

School. Ivan and wife Mary (Ray) ’53<br />

have moved to Indian River, Michigan<br />

to enjoy their retirement.<br />

James Mansfield has joined the<br />

marketing and sales staff of WICAT<br />

Systems, a leading research, development,<br />

and manufacturing firm based in Utah<br />

that specializes in computer-assisted<br />

instruction systems and curriculum for<br />

schools. His areas of responsibility cover<br />

Illinois and Indiana.<br />

John and Betty (Butler) Sinclair are<br />

keeping busy in Sierra Vista, Arizona.<br />

John is in his third year as superintendent<br />

in Sierra Vista Unified School District<br />

and Betty is a teacher in Polominas<br />

School District.<br />

‘59<br />

Norma (Barnett) Gaston has been<br />

named the department chairman for<br />

Fine Arts and coordinator of the Positive<br />

Attitude classes at the junior high level<br />

in Decatur Township. Norma and<br />

husband Marion are residents of Camby.<br />

’60<br />

Robert Frey will become dean of<br />

Wilmington College, a Quaker-affiliated<br />

school in Ohio, July 1. He has been a<br />

member of the staff of Lynchburg<br />

College in Virginia.<br />

Lou Hurrle has been named attendance<br />

officer for Hancock-South Madison Joint<br />

Services, after teaching 19 years in<br />

Hancock County schools. Hurrle will<br />

begin his new duties in August. Wife<br />

Suzanne (Clark) ’59 continues to teach<br />

at Greenfield Junior High School. The<br />

Hurrles have two sons.<br />

Marilyn Ramsey, head girls’ basketball<br />

coach at Southport High School, has<br />

announced her retirement from coaching<br />

effective the 1984-85 school year,<br />

concluding a 22-year coaching career at<br />

the IU School of Nursing and Southport.<br />

department at Southport.<br />

David and Judith (Danmeyer) Bra& ’63<br />

are now owners of the Computer Store<br />

located in Marion, Indiana. They are<br />

the parents of a son, Clark, who is a<br />

sophomore at Purdue University. David<br />

and Judy take an active part in the<br />

Sweetzer United Methodist Church near<br />

their home.<br />

Jerry L. Symmonds’ daughter Molly,<br />

(age 8), got excited when the mail came<br />

and told him, “Oh Dad, here’s your<br />

Aluminum <strong>News</strong>!” Jerry is a fourth grade<br />

teacher at Westlake Elementary School<br />

in Wayne Township.<br />

Bev (Gorbett) kibold has worked at<br />

McGuire Federal Credit Union,<br />

Wrightstown, New Jersey, since 198 1.<br />

The credit union is the second-largest<br />

in New Jersey dnd has 48,000 members.<br />

Bev and husband John, a retired member<br />

of the USAF, live in Mount Holly, New<br />

Jersey.<br />

R Lee Wolverton has recently accepted<br />

a position with Waycross Molders<br />

Products, Waycross, Georgia, as a staff/<br />

industrial engineer. Lee and wife Carrol<br />

Ann live in Waycross with their family.<br />
