Military Police participate in Armed Forces Appreciation Day<br />

519th MILITARY POLICE BATTALION<br />

SULPHUR, La. — More than 150 Soldiers and<br />

Family members of <strong>the</strong> 519th Military Police Battalion<br />

joined <strong>the</strong> community of Sulphur, La., in<br />

celebration of its annual Armed Forces Appreciation<br />

Day Nov. 12 at <strong>the</strong> Recreation and Aquatic<br />

Center.<br />

Each year, <strong>the</strong> city of Sulphur conducts an<br />

Armed Forces Appreciation Day following Veteran’s<br />

Day in recognition of <strong>the</strong> achievements, sacrifices<br />

and dedication of veterans, service members<br />

and <strong>the</strong>ir Families.<br />

The 519th MP Bn’s chain of command and Soldiers<br />

shared quality time with local veterans and<br />

<strong>the</strong> community.<br />

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8107, American<br />

Legion Post 171, <strong>the</strong> Armed Forces Committee of<br />

Sulphur, Victory Worship Center and many o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

volunteers in <strong>the</strong> community organized <strong>the</strong><br />

event.<br />

Chris Duncan, mayor of Sulphur, said he was<br />

happy to see all of <strong>the</strong> support <strong>the</strong> Viper Family<br />

Cantrell closure<br />

Cantrell Fitness Center closes for renovations<br />

Jan. 1 for about one year. Renovations include interior<br />

and exterior upgrades. During <strong>the</strong> closure,<br />

fitness needs may be met at Wheelock Fitness<br />

Center, 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade<br />

Gym, 162nd Infantry Brigade Gym and <strong>the</strong> Operations<br />

Group Gym.<br />

Teen lock-in<br />

Child, Youth and School Services’ Middle<br />

School and Teen program hosts a lock-in today<br />

and Saturday from 6 p.m.-7 a.m. at <strong>the</strong> Siegfried<br />

Youth Center. Youth will enjoy dinner and breakfast,<br />

skating, movies and bowling.<br />

The lock-in is open to youth in grades six<br />

through 12 that are registered with CYSS. The<br />

cost is $15. Participants must wear appropriate<br />

Special openings<br />

Child, Youth and School Services offers special<br />

openings Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. for children<br />

ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. To reserve a<br />

space, reservations must be made by noon today.<br />

Cost is $35 per day per child and must be paid in<br />

full at <strong>the</strong> time of reservation.<br />

Parents must bring hourly care packets for all<br />

children on <strong>the</strong> day of care. Children must be<br />

registered with CYSS to attend.Call 531-1955 for<br />

Brunch update<br />

Sunday Brunch at <strong>the</strong> Warrior Community<br />

Center is halted during <strong>the</strong> holidays. Brunch resumes<br />
