CSI head coach Randy Rogers has had the fortune of All-American guards his last four seasons. This season,
Rogers went big and thinks he might have the best group of inside players he’s ever had at CSI. The Golden
Eagle guards will be able to mix it up and get the ball to a number of posts, which in turn should open up the
outside shot.
“We won’t be as quick and may not run the floor as much as our teams have in the past few years,” said Rogers.
“But we should dominate on the glass and improve our field goal percentage with shorter range shots.”
Leading the way will be returners Anita Burdick and Eva Ivanova. Both stand 6-3 and were able to gain invaluable
experience last season. They will be joined by freshmen Maddy Plunkett (6-2) and Soana Lucet (6- ).
Lucet can also play the forward or guard position for the Golden Eagles.
“I am excited to get started and see those four in game action,” Rogers said. “As the season wears on, they
have a chance to be something special.”
Other versatile players will be LaCale
Pringle-Buchanan (5-8), Cassie Wood (5-9),
Samantha Tinned (6-0) and Noelle Milicic
(6-0). All four can play the guard or forward
position. Pringle-Buchanan transferred from
Pepperdine University, where she sat out with
a knee injury. She is likely to be one of the
Golden Eagle point guards but is tough to
stop when she posts up in the paint. Tinned
led the NWAAC last season in scoring at
Highline CC. Wood is a hard-nosed scrappy
player and Noelle gives the Eagles an opportunity
to run.
“We are athletic and big at the 3-spot,” Rogers
said. “Soana, Cassie, LaCale and Samantha
can play multiple positions and give us
lots of options.”
Rogers brings back the most experience at
the guard position. Returners Maylene Ornelas,
Amy Higbee and Tera Tremayne all saw
action last season and are capable of putting
up points from beyond the arc. They will be
joined with newcomers Kelsey Jardine and
Jamie Edwards, both Twin Falls High School
products. Jardine is a pure shooter and Edwards,
who transferred from Sheridan College,
brings experience.
“If our guards can knock down some shots
4
and take care of the ball, we could be really good by the end,” Rogers said.
As always Region 8 play will be tough.
Salt Lake will be gunning for its third straight trip to the NJCAA Tournament. CSI knocked the Bruins off
three times last year but couldn’t get by them in the Region 8 Tournament.
“In our league, on any given night, any team can beat any other team,” Rogers said. “We will need to be ready
to play each time we step on the court.”
Added pressure will be on the CSI women’s team this season as the league’s winner will host the Region 8
Tournament.
Never settling for mediocre, Randy Rogers brought a relentless
pursuit of perfection to CSI when he took the job five years ago. It
has paid off. In his second season, Rogers brought home a regularseason
championship, Region 8 Tournament championship and a
NJCAA consolation championship. The next year, he did even better.
The Golden Eagles won the Scenic West Athletic Conference title, the
Region 8 Tournament title and ended the season ranked No. in the
NJCAA poll. That year, CSI brought home runner-up hardware at the
national tournament, finishing higher than any Region 8 team has
ever finished.
In the past four seasons, Rogers has posted a 3-23 (.832) overall
record and a Region 8 record of 67- 3 (.838). He has 27 college
wins in the five years. Named Region 8 coach of the year in 2003-04
and 2004-05, Rogers coached three All-Americans, seven academic
All-Americans and won two SWAC Championships, two runner-up
SWAC finishes and two Region 8 Championships. His teams have
been nationally ranked since the 2003-04 season. During his time at
CSI, he has helped 23 players go on to compete at a 4-year college or
university.
An intense coach, Rogers focuses on teaching fundamentals, playing aggressive hard-nosed defense and running when
at all possible. His philosophy is simple - work hard and positive results will follow.
Rogers came to CSI from Spring Creek High School where his teams qualified for the state tournament in each of
his five seasons. He was named coach of the year in 998, 999, 2000, 200 and 2002. He holds a conference record of
50- 0 (.833) and an overall record of 92-49. Rogers earned his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in physical
education. Prior to attending
Utah State, he attended Salt
Lake CC and Dixie State
College.
Rogers and his late wife
of 22 years, Lori, have four
daughters: Tristan, Lauren,
Kyla and Jordan.
Pictured to the right is
Rogers coached the first Region
18 women’s team to play in the
NJCAA National Championship
game, leading the Golden Eagles to
a second-place finish nationally in
2004-05.
Merrilee Udy-Sears begins her third season as a CSI assistant coach.
The talented player turned coach has brought experience and knowledge
to the court.
“Merrilee is intelligent and hard working,” said CSI head coach
Randy Rogers. She is very knowledgeable about the game. She is
intense, and does the little things that make our program successful.”
Sears, who primarily works with the guards, has been invaluable to
the program.
She coached two-time All-American Maria Moore and helped five
players move on to the 4-year level.
Her duties also include academic advising. In the two years Merrilee
has been with CSI, the Golden Eagles have had five Academic All-
Americans.
“Merrilee brings experience, competitiveness, organization and the ability to communicate with the players,”
Rogers said. “CSI is very lucky to have her on the coaching staff.”
Sears played two seasons at Ricks College before finishing her college career at Idaho State University.
At Ricks, she started on a team that qualified for nationals in 2002, the same year she earned Region 8 alltournament
honors as well as led the team as the co-captain. While there, she averaged 4.3 assists per game and
7.6 points per game.
At ISU, she also had a big impact, leading the Bengals to an NIT appearance in 2004. Her on-the-court
performance is reflected in the ISU record books.
Sears ranks third all time for career assists
per game and first in career assist/turnover
ratio. She is the all-time leader for singleseason
assist/turnover ratio. After playing for
the Bengals, Sears graduated from ISU with a
bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She
is currently working on her Master’s Degree in
Educational Administration.
Sears, who was born and raised in American
Falls, played her high school ball at American
Falls High School. She led them to three thirdplace
finishes at state and a state championship
her senior year. That year she garnered state
player of the year honors.
She recently married Brian Sears.
All-American Maria Moore was not in the lineup.
She showed she can make an impact, scoring 8
points against Snow last season.
Before CSI: Originally from Mexico, Maylene
moved to Utah her junior year of high school and
gained dual citizenship. She led Mountain View
High School to a league championship her junior
season. MVHS made it to the state semi-finals
that season and Maylene earned second team allregion
and second team all-state honors.
As a senior, she helped MVHS to another league
championship and a second place finish in the
state. Maylene was named first team all-region
The College of Southern Idaho Athletic Department and the CSI Golden Eagle Booster club is now celebrating 4 years together.
Formed in 966, the booster club was organized to raise funds for all CSI student-athletes and promote CSI athletics. The athletic
competition you are about to enjoy tonight has benefited from the long-standing commitment by the many faithful booster members
who donate generously each year.
Many of the student-athletes you see on campus today have received scholarship money generated by the CSI Golden Eagle
Booster Club. Memberships in the booster club are the main source of revenue CSI receives for student-athlete scholarships. By joining
the booster club, individuals have a direct impact on the quality of student-athletes the college can attract. Members have a unique
opportunity to develop friendships, and long-lasting relationships, and know that their financial support has helped a young person
obtain a college degree.
If you’re a fan of CSI athletics, your support can be expressed by joining the CSI Golden Eagle Booster club for the 2007-2008
season. Last year the booster club raised more than $ 00,000 for the scholarship fund. We need your help. Members enjoy invitations to
the booster club luncheons, email updates, discounts on concession items and free entry into post-game functions.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you as a new booster member and seeing you at our next booster club function. GO
McDonald’s, locally owned and operated by Bill
and Donna Kyle in Twin Falls, Burley and Jerome
sponsors the CSI Golden Eagles and the McSlam-n-
Jam. The money pledged for every dunk during home
Golden Eagle basketball games is split between CSI
Athletics and the Ronald McDonald House.
The Reason
When a child becomes seriously ill, the whole family suffers, particularly if the child must be hospitalized or receive outpatient treatment far away
from home for extended periods of time.
To be with their child, parents often sleep on uncomfortable chairs or cots, or bear the expense and impersonal atmosphere of a hotel room. At a
time when they want all their strength available for their child, the simple demands of everyday life can seem overwhelming.
For these families, Ronald McDonald House offers a refuge from the hospital, a home-away-from-home, where they can have a room of their
own, a comfortable bed, kitchen and laundry facilities, toys for the kids, and a cup of hot coffee.
Ronald McDonald House
For the child, it’s knowing that mom and dad are close by, in a good place. It’s having a comforting, peaceful place to go from the hospital.
For a brother or sister who cannot be there, it’s knowing that other family members are safe while away in a strange city.
For the parents in the House, it’s knowing that they are not alone, that others have gone through similar situations and survived. It’s new parents
getting practical advice from “veterans.” It’s people drawing hope and strength from late-night conversations in corridors and kitchens, sharing
experiences that can be difficult for family and friends back home to fully understand.
And, it’s a place to treasure every moment of having a child “home,” even if for just a short time.
For board members and volunteers, who give of their time, money, and skills, it’s knowing that what they do really helps.
How The House Operates
Each Ronald McDonald House is unique, created by a team of local citizens to meet the needs of their community. The House is owned and
operated by the local not-for-profit organization created by these citizens.
Local McDonald’s restaurants become involved in initial fundraising once several key elements are present: medical advisors from a hospital
with a need for such a House; a parent organization comprised of people whose children have been treated or are being treat at the same hospital; and
other interested and concerned volunteers.
To varying degrees, all groups participate in planning, construction, furnishing, building community awareness, securing goods and services, and
ongoing House operations. Other local and national companies also volunteer their support through material donations and monetary contributions.
Families using the House donate $5 to $ 5 per day, if they can afford it. These revenues pay for part of the costs of continuing House
operations.
How It Began
The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 974 as the result of the perseverance and dedication of Fred Hill, then a Philadelphia
Eagles football player.
Today, through similar efforts by other groups of dedicated individuals, Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing for more than
350,000 people a year in facilities throughout the United States; Canada; Australia; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Geissen, West Germany.
McDonald’s Corporation assists in increasing public awareness and in providing start-up funding for the new Houses. The local not-for-profit
organization operating the House can quality for $25,000 grant from Ronald McDonald’s Children’s Charities.
Most importantly, it is the time and services of local volunteers and the local contributions of money and materials that make it possible for the
Ronald McDonald Houses to be open and operating.
Assisting in these efforts, McDonald’s restaurant franchisees, holding individual promotions around the country, have raised more than $25
million for the Ronald McDonald Houses and the families they serve.
If you have questions about the national Ronald McDonald House program or wish to contact a local Ronald McDonald House regarding services,
activities, volunteer work or tax deductible donations, write or call: Ronald McDonald House, 0 Warm Spring Ave., Boise, ID 837 2.
