Weaver, James (Voice Techniques).
Singer, conductor and teacher James Weaver has been a frequent performer
with many of the finest orchestras and chamber ensembles in North
America and Europe. As a young singer Mr. Weaver’s interest in Early Music
led him to Amsterdam, where he studied with Dutch Baritone Max van
Egmond, receiving a performance degree from the Sweelinck Conservatory
in 1988. Since then he has performed with many of the world’s finest period
instrument ensembles, including Collegium Vocale Ghent, Academy of
the Begienhoff, the Orpheus Band, The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra,
the Dryden Ensemble, Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Seattle and Portland
Baroque Orchestras, New York Pro Musica, the Baltimore Consort, The
Newberry Consort, Columbus Consort, and the Ricercar Consort, Joshua
Rifkin and The Bach Ensemble, Jeffrey Thomas and the American Bach
Soloists, Kenneth Slowik and the Smithsonian Chamber Players, the San
Francisco Bach Choir, Bethlehem Bach Choir, and the Washington Bach
Consort. A sought-after interpreter of Lieder, Mr. Weaver has collaborated
with Dalton Baldwin, Kenneth Slowik, and Joanne Kong, most recently
in recitals of the great Schumann songcycles, Dichterliebe, Op. 48, and
Liederkreis, Op. 24 and 39. He has made numerous recordings with the
American Bach Soloists on Koch International and can also be heard on
the Dorian, Smithsonian, Channel Classics, Ricercar, Newport Classics,
and Loft labels. Mr. Weaver is an active teacher and choral conductor. A
co-founder and former director of The College of William & Mary’s Early
Music Ensemble, he has conducted vocal and instrumental ensemble
performances featured at the Longy International Baroque Institute,
the Early Music Athenaeum at Rutgers University, the San Francisco
Early Music Society Summer Workshops, as well as at numerous choral
workshops and master classes around the country. He has been on the music
faculty of The College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia,
and Longwood University. He is currently on the faculty of the University
of Richmond, where he has taught since 2002, and music director of
Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in historic Williamsburg, VA, where he
has served for 23 years. Mr. Weaver teaches voice techniques at CNU.
Winters, Ruth (Music Theory, Aural Skills, Accompanying).
Ruth Winters holds the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from
Winthrop University and the Master of Music degree in piano performance
from Indiana University. She has taught on the faculties of Christopher
Newport University, Old Dominion University and the Governor’s School
of the Arts in Norfolk and has performed in solo and chamber recitals
throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. As a vocal coach and
collaborative pianist Ms. Winters has worked with the Maryland Opera
Studio, Opera North, Opera Roanoke, Virginia Opera and Opera Festiva
di Roma. Ms. Winters teaches courses in theory, aural skills, and keyboard
skills at CNU.
