Weaver, James (Voice Techniques).<br />

Singer, conductor and teacher James Weaver has been a frequent performer<br />

with many <strong>of</strong> the finest orchestras and chamber ensembles in North<br />

America and Europe. As a young singer Mr. Weaver’s interest in Early <strong>Music</strong><br />

led him to Amsterdam, where he studied with Dutch Baritone Max van<br />

Egmond, receiving a performance degree from the Sweelinck Conservatory<br />

in 1988. Since then he has performed with many <strong>of</strong> the world’s finest period<br />

instrument ensembles, including Collegium Vocale Ghent, Academy <strong>of</strong><br />

the Begienh<strong>of</strong>f, the Orpheus Band, The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra,<br />

the Dryden Ensemble, Santa Fe Pro <strong>Music</strong>a, the Seattle and Portland<br />

Baroque Orchestras, New York Pro <strong>Music</strong>a, the Baltimore Consort, The<br />

Newberry Consort, Columbus Consort, and the Ricercar Consort, Joshua<br />

Rifkin and The Bach Ensemble, Jeffrey Thomas and the American Bach<br />

Soloists, Kenneth Slowik and the Smithsonian Chamber Players, the San<br />

Francisco Bach Choir, Bethlehem Bach Choir, and the Washington Bach<br />

Consort. A sought-after interpreter <strong>of</strong> Lieder, Mr. Weaver has collaborated<br />

with Dalton Baldwin, Kenneth Slowik, and Joanne Kong, most recently<br />

in recitals <strong>of</strong> the great Schumann songcycles, Dichterliebe, Op. 48, and<br />

Liederkreis, Op. 24 and 39. He has made numerous recordings with the<br />

American Bach Soloists on Koch International and can also be heard on<br />

the Dorian, Smithsonian, Channel Classics, Ricercar, <strong>Newport</strong> Classics,<br />

and L<strong>of</strong>t labels. Mr. Weaver is an active teacher and choral conductor. A<br />

co-founder and former director <strong>of</strong> The College <strong>of</strong> William & Mary’s Early<br />

<strong>Music</strong> Ensemble, he has conducted vocal and instrumental ensemble<br />

performances featured at the Longy International Baroque Institute,<br />

the Early <strong>Music</strong> Athenaeum at Rutgers University, the San Francisco<br />

Early <strong>Music</strong> Society Summer Workshops, as well as at numerous choral<br />

workshops and master classes around the country. He has been on the music<br />

faculty <strong>of</strong> The College <strong>of</strong> William and Mary, the University <strong>of</strong> Virginia,<br />

and Longwood University. He is currently on the faculty <strong>of</strong> the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Richmond, where he has taught since 2002, and music director <strong>of</strong><br />

Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in historic Williamsburg, VA, where he<br />

has served for 23 years. Mr. Weaver teaches voice techniques at CNU.<br />

Winters, Ruth (<strong>Music</strong> Theory, Aural Skills, Accompanying).<br />

Ruth Winters holds the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> degree in piano performance from<br />

Winthrop University and the Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> degree in piano performance<br />

from Indiana University. She has taught on the faculties <strong>of</strong> <strong>Christopher</strong><br />

<strong>Newport</strong> University, Old Dominion University and the Governor’s School<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Arts in Norfolk and has performed in solo and chamber recitals<br />

throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. As a vocal coach and<br />

collaborative pianist Ms. Winters has worked with the Maryland Opera<br />

Studio, Opera North, Opera Roanoke, Virginia Opera and Opera Festiva<br />

di Roma. Ms. Winters teaches courses in theory, aural skills, and keyboard<br />

skills at CNU.<br />
