CELL PHONE POLICY<br />
Use <strong>of</strong> cell phones during lectures, rehearsals, recitals, and concerts is strictly<br />
prohibited. Their use is discourteous to teachers, fellow students, and performers and<br />
could result in lowered grades and disqualification <strong>of</strong> MUSC 012 credit.<br />
COPYRIGHT POLICY<br />
The <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong> ASCAP and BMI and operates in<br />
accordance with all copyright laws and regulations prescribed by these organizations.<br />
The copying <strong>of</strong> materials for reasons other than study is strictly prohibited.<br />
FAILURE POLICY<br />
A music major must earn a grade <strong>of</strong> C- or higher in order to pass a course in the music<br />
major, and a required music course may be repeated only once. Earning a failing<br />
grade twice in the same required music course could result in a student’s automatic<br />
termination as a music major. According to the University Cataloge, courses that<br />
are in general distribution may be repeated twice. A student must have a cumulative<br />
GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5 or higher in order to be accepted into a music degree and concentration.<br />
A cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or higher is required in order to be accepted into the Master<br />
<strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching program.<br />
PROSCRIBED UNIVERSITY CONDUCT POLICY<br />
Students are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the decorum necessary<br />
for successful teaching and respect for the rights <strong>of</strong> others. Disruptive behavior,<br />
late arrival and early departure, pr<strong>of</strong>anity, disrespect for others, and conversations<br />
unrelated to the class are not acceptable. The pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the class will remove from<br />
the class for that period students who act in this manner. Recurring problems may<br />
be referred to the President or the President’s designate for an Interim Suspension.<br />
TEACHING POLICIES OF THE CNU MUSIC FACULTY*<br />
1. To provide good organization <strong>of</strong> both the subject matter and the course.<br />
2. To be an effective communicator.<br />
3. To possess knowledge <strong>of</strong> and enthusiasm for the subject matter and<br />
teaching.<br />
4. To have a positive attitude toward students.<br />
5. To be fair in examinations and grading.<br />
6. To be flexible in approaches to teaching.<br />
