<strong>NEG</strong> coat<strong>in</strong>gs & Photon Induced Desorption (see N.Hilleret’s lecture):<br />

Are these coat<strong>in</strong>gs suitable for the <strong>use</strong> <strong>in</strong> a particle accelertor?<br />

“Variation <strong>of</strong> the effective molecular<br />

desorption yield as a function <strong>of</strong> the<br />

beam <strong>and</strong> photon dose measured on<br />

a TiZrV coated sta<strong>in</strong>less steel<br />

chamber <strong>in</strong>stalled on a beaml<strong>in</strong>e at<br />

ESRF Grenoble.<br />

The getter coat<strong>in</strong>g activation (250 °C<br />

for 20 h) is accompanied by a sharp<br />

decrease <strong>of</strong> the desorption yield<br />

(about a factor 380), due to both<br />

surface clean<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> pump<strong>in</strong>g.”<br />
