ARTIST DIPLOMA IN OPERA<br />

All singers and coaches who are selected for this pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essional program are guaranteed a $3,000 award.

ELIGIBILITY:<br />
1. The competition is open to all returning <strong>CCM</strong> students and all new students in all vocal categories who have been accepted for<br />
admissions to the <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Conservatory</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> in the following degree programs: AD Opera, DMA Voice and MM Voice. (1st<br />
and 2 nd year MM ONLY) A student can only win the $15,000.00 Corbett Award on one occasion but is eligible to compete for<br />
the other awards.<br />
2. Finalists must have been accepted for admission to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cincinnati</strong> <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Conservatory</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> for the 2011-2012<br />
academic year.<br />
3. The age limitation for singers in the competition is 35 years <strong>of</strong> age. Singers must be under the age <strong>of</strong> 36 as on April 2, 2011.<br />
4. You must be enrolled as full-time student in 2011-2012 to receive the awards.<br />
PROCEDURES:<br />
5. All applicants for the Opera Scholarship Competition will sing a preliminary audition, which will double as the admission<br />
audition for new students. (See the “2011-2012 Application Handbook”, p. 18-19.) Current AD Opera Students are exempt from<br />
singing a preliminary audition, but must complete an application to participate. Representatives selected by the voice and opera<br />
faculties <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Conservatory</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> will select the finalists for the April 2 competition. Faculty will also confirm that<br />
each finalist has been accepted for admission and is eligible for the final competition.<br />
REPERTOIRE:<br />
6. Each voice applicant must list five operatic arias, which he/she is prepared to sing from memory and perform with dramatic<br />
presentation. Four arias must be sung in the original languages including at least two foreign languages and English. The fifth<br />
aria may be sung in translation. The arias should be selected so as to represent at least three stylistic periods <strong>of</strong> repertoire:<br />
Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary opera. Failure to follow these requirements may result in disqualification.<br />
PRESENTATION:<br />
7. Contestants will be judged on the basis <strong>of</strong> voice, acting, language, musicianship and style. Each applicant should be prepared to<br />
give a complete dramatic presentation <strong>of</strong> each aria.<br />

8. All applicants for the Opera Scholarship Competition must complete the Competition application form. In addition, all new<br />
degree students must complete the regular admissions forms and ensure that all materials are sent to the <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Conservatory</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Music</strong> and postmarked no later than January 7, 2011. ** Applications may be obtained by contacting the Office <strong>of</strong> Admissions,<br />

9. Applicants for the Opera Scholarship Competition must:<br />

10. The finalists will be notified <strong>of</strong> their selection no later than March 16, 2011.<br />
11. The finalists must pay for their own expenses to <strong>Cincinnati</strong> for the Competition. A pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
accompanist will be provided free <strong>of</strong> charge in <strong>Cincinnati</strong>.<br />

12. The Opera Scholarship winners will be announced on Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2011, at the close <strong>of</strong> the<br />
competition.<br />
13. If the applicant is in a “guaranteed award” category (i.e. Artists Diploma, $3,000.00 award) and is named a<br />
winner <strong>of</strong> a higher monetary prize, the student will receive the higher award—not both awards.<br />
14. The <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Conservatory</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> reserves the right not to award all prizes.<br />

grade point average (GPA) from their previous undergraduate or graduate degree programs. If a winner does<br />
not have a 3.0 GPA, it is still possible to receive the named Opera Scholarship award without receiving the<br />
Graduate Scholarship.<br />
