New Jersey Sunday Herald, July 31, 2011 New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm & Horse Show Page 39 “There’s always something fun happening at the Sussex County Fairgrounds” is not just a slogan. The Sussex County Fairgrounds is a hum of activity most weekends, not just the 10 days of the fair. With a schedule that spans April to November, there can be three or four events on the same day. Some of these events are indirectly connected to the New Jersey State Fair/ Sussex County Farm & Horse Show. In March, the Agriculture Division of the Fair puts on Springfest, its annual flower show. The Sussex County Farm & Horse Show Foundation hosts a Beefsteak Dinner catered by the Brownstone in May, and the new Festival of Trees in December. In most months there is a benefit horse show run by the Sussex County Horse Show Association. Real crowd pleasers come with nice weather — the Crawfish Festival in June, the Native Herald File Photo Artistry in Wood artists will be carving wood sculptures daily at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm & Horse Show. The sculptures created will be auctioned Sunday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. Fairgrounds fun continues all year American PowWow in July, Peters Valley Craft Fair in September, and the Salute to Veterans in November. Visitors to fairgrounds can watch dog shows, dressage, wrestling tournaments, a cross country meet, craft shows, poultry shows and an Irish festival. For information, go to www.njstatefair.org, click on “events”at the top of the home page, and “all events” on the listing page. Sponsors finance fair fun Corporate and local sponsors make it possible to bring fairgoers new exhibits, expand existing exhibits and acts, or underwrite classes in a division. Sponsorships come in all amounts. Some families donate trophies to livestock competitions, or knitting classes in the name of family members. Some corporations enter into multiyear contracts for a building or area.
