CURRENT ACADEMIC POSITION: Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>German</strong> with tenure, <strong>The</strong> Univ. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong>, since 2007 (at the<br />

UI since 1990). Nominated 0 % appointment Honors Program (pending).<br />

RESEARCH AND TEACHING INTERESTS: <strong>German</strong> literature, mainly narrative prose <strong>of</strong> the 18th and 19th<br />

centuries (novel, historical novel, autobiography and biography, women writers), interrelations <strong>of</strong> literature and<br />

art, <strong>German</strong> cultural history, correspondence.<br />

EDUCATION: Dr. phil. (equivalent to Ph. D.), <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Regensburg, <strong>German</strong>y, July 1988 ("Summa cum<br />
