Unless otherwise directed by the Board, staff will seek the Board’s approval, as part of the
July 9, 2013 Public Hearing, to:
1. Declare these eleven properties as appropriate for affordable housing;
2. Have staff work with Habitat for Humanity to determine which of those eleven parcels
meet their organization’s needs for affordable housing purposes and proceed with the
appropriate statutory process to transfer those identified parcels to Habitat for Humanity
for the construction of permanent affordable housing, which is consistent with the
Board’s January 29, 2013 direction;
3. Have staff identify other appropriate affordable housing projects through Leon County’s
affordable housing program for any of the eleven parcels that are not transferred to
Habitat for Humanity for the construction of permanent affordable housing; and
4. Delegate the authority to the County Administrator to sell any of the eleven properties
identified as surplus that are not used for affordable housing purposes either through
transfer to Habitat for Humanity or through Leon County’s affordable housing program.
To the extent any of the eight properties, recently acquired through the use of Leon County
Housing Finance Authority funds to pay $1,828.01 in unpaid 2012 taxes, are not utilized by Leon
County’s affordable housing program and are transferred to Habitat for Humanity or sold, the
funding source will be adjusted accordingly.
Options:
1. Declare the list of eleven properties as surplus (Attachment #1).
2. Schedule a First and Only Public Hearing to adopt a Resolution and approve a list of Countyowned
properties appropriate for affordable housing for Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.
3. Do not declare the list of eleven properties as surplus and do not schedule a First and Only
Public Hearing to adopt a Resolution and approve a list of County-owned properties
appropriate for affordable housing.
