MainStreet Libertyville Holiday Greetings from the MainStreet Libertyville Board! As the holidays approach, the MainStreet organization and its volunteers have been working feverishly to continue the traditions that have made our town nationally famous (Nov/Dec 2006 Midwest Living) as a destination for shopping, dining and enjoying the special events downtown Libertyville offers. It is our hope that, as you participate in these events, lasting memories will be created and new traditions will be born. The season will begin with the annual Village of Libertyville Tree Lighting ceremony on Friday evening, Nov. 23 in Cook Park. Choral presentations and a visit from a very special guest in a red suit will be on that evening’s agenda. Be sure to walk around the downtown, as the shops will be resplendent with their decorations. The winner of MainStreet’s Best Holiday Storefront Display contest will be announced that evening. Meet the owners and enjoy the food, drink and music offered. Starting Saturday, Dec. 1, and continuing the consecutive two Saturdays, the downtown will be bustling with horse-drawn carriage rides around Cook Park, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and strolling Victorian carolers. The traditional Dickens of a Holiday will be celebrated with special events for all ages. Take some time from the rush of the season to enjoy an afternoon at the Victorian Tea at St. Lawrence Episcopal Church on Saturdays, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8. What a perfect time to gather with friends to listen to music of the season in a beautiful setting while enjoying delicious food. Be sure to make your reservations early, as seating is limited. The Children’s Holiday Shoppe, a perennial favorite for the youngest shoppers, will again be held at the Civic Center. With the help of our elves, they can search for the perfect gift for everyone on their list. Once the frantic schedules of the holidays are behind us, the cold, blustery winter days set in. Plans are underway for a special downtown Why Wine About Winter event in February that will be sure to please. Be sure to check our Web site for details! As the year draws to a close, the MainStreet Board of Directors would like to extend our sincere gratitude to its many volunteers and partners for their tireless efforts in continuing to preserve the heritage and prosperity of the downtown.
