NATf ONALS '8% Cont'd from page 12 A. M. (Pud) Burgess of Cobar, shot the only possible to win the Champion of Champions Tifle outright. Bruce Southgate of Eley Ammunition announced Bev Grice, Q.C.T.A. Secretary as the winner of the 1982 Award. Bev was presented with the statuette by Mrs Audrey Thomas, widow of the late J. Newton Thomas. A very popular and well deserved recognition of someone who has done so much for clay target shooting in Queensland. For once Bev was speechless as she attempted to reply! The presentation of Presidential medals completed the formal part of the nights' proceedings. These medals were awarded for outstanding service over a long period of time and went to Mr R. C. Mules of South Australia, Mr G. R. Richards, Western Australia and posthumously to the late J. Newton Thomm, Mrs Audrey Thomas very graciously accept- ing this medal. And so the '82 Nationals were over, the diners and wlners danced on into into the night and said goodbye until '83 in Adelaide. 0 The Van Diemens Trophy. donated for Perpetual Shoulder to Shoulder compefition between the Mackintosh Countries, by Dr. Paul Cains. This replica of a clay target inlaid with silver is made from Tasmanian Blackwood and measures 34 centimetres in diameter. The Association's Executive Committee met in Brisbane on Thursday, May 20. Mr. Laurie Connors of Mildura, Victoria, was re-elected un-opposed as National President. Mr. Roy Holtfreter of Northam, Western Australia, was also re-elected unopposed to the position of Vice President. An election was conducted for two places on the Associa- tion's Management Committee. Three people were nominated for these positions, Mr. Robert Parker of New South Wales, Mr Richard Dean of Queensland, and Mr. Robert Buchan of Victoria. Mr. Parker and Mr. Dean were elected to join the National President and V.ce President on the Management Committee. Dr. Paul Cains of Tasmania did not seek re-election to the Management or International Sub-committee. His place on the International Sub-committee, as the Management Com- mittee's representative has been taken by Richard Dean. Three new faces appeared at the Executive Committee table for this meeting. Ken Coppleman, Tasmania, Neville Seis, Northern Territory, and Leighton Martin, South Australia. Skeet Nationals The Executive Committee decided that a separate Skeet Nationals Championship series be conducted in 1983. The dates and venue are still to be decided, but it is planned to hold the Tournament in Victoria. It was agreed that Skeet Nation- als be allocated on a State rotation basis, and that a minimum of 5 lay-outs be available. Trap Nationals The 1983 National Trap Championships will be conducted from April 11 to April 16 at the South Australian Gun Club, The Club will be conducting the pre-Nationals on Saturday April 9 and Sunday April 10. State Presidents & Secretaries Meeting A meeting of State Presidents and Secretaries will be held on Saturday September 4,1982, followed by a two day meeting of the Executive Committee, September 5 and 6. State Presidents and Secretaries will be invited to attend the Executive meeting as observers. RELOADS AT NATIONALS The Executive Committee decided to defer a decision on the use of reloads at Nationals until the next meeting. A full investigation is being undertaken into all aspects of this matter, including the value of trophies donated by the Industry each year, and the possible effects the use of reloads would have on industry participation in Nation& Cham- pionships. Australian Teams. As from the 1983 Nationals, Australian teams will be selected for ladies and Juniors, in addition to the Open team. The Executive Director will be submitting a proposal to the U.K. International Council regarding postd matches for ladies and juniors run along similar lines to the Macintosh Team shoot, during his forthcoming visit. :O AUSTRALIAN CLAY TARGET SHOOTING NEWS--JULY 7982 Page 15
