AROUND T TRAPS Sunday April S5, 1982 The Internatbnal Sub-committee met on this day at the P.C.T.A. office in Melbourne. It is well known now, this committee is responsible for aJl facets of our international shooting, be it D.T.L., Skeet or Olympic trap and skeet. It is also responsible for providing a budget for its operation to the full Executive for approval. Its financial year runs from 1st July to 30th June. It is obvious a great deal of money is required to fulfill all the desires of this committee. Its recommendation on 1982-83 involvement for our shooters include United Kingdom trap team to be selected at Brisbane Nationals, Commonwealth Games, training camps, World Championships, Caraca and Canada, skeet team to either America or Great Britain, all of which require a great deal of funds to implement. In my conversations with a great number of shooters, they all agree with the concept of sending our top shots to compete in other countries, to further their experience. To assist with moneys required to implement these trips, a $5.00 levy has been placed on State, Commonwealth and National I.S.U. Championships. Also $3.00 was added to the 1982 National D.B., S.B. and Point Score Championships and purposely set aside for the Great Britain trip. Industry too, is assisting with funds needed. Winchester Australia and Eley Ammunition donated guns to be raffled and drawn at the Presentation Dinner to be held at the completion of the 1982 Nationals, a great gesture by these two firms. It has been agreed your National Association will be responsible for the conduct of all future National and Commonwealth I.S.U. Championships. These havc previously been hosted by clubs throughout Australia. Monday April 26, 1982 A meeting of the Management Committee was held at the A.C.T.A office on this day. The 1981 accounts and balance sheet were discussed, together with results of the first three months of our 1982 operation. Our Accountants, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells now provide quarterly operational costs against budget. This should prove beneficial to the Executive in its general administration. Deloitte, Haskins and Sells are dso engaged to implement the first stage of the Feasibility Study, on our National Ground. I will keep you posted on the progress, as I am most anxious to see a final decision made on this project as soon as possible. Tuesday April 27, 2982 Part of this day was spent at the A.C.T.A. office attending to administration before heading for my home town Mildura, where I stayed the night, packed a case and headed for Emerald in Queensland. Gemfields Gun Club, forty kilometres out of Emerald were hosts to the Queensland State Carnival, over Saturday 1st. Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd May 1982. I was invited, and as it was only the weekend before the pre-nationals at Brisbane Gun Club, I thought I would make the effort to be there. The club has only recently established itself in the area, and is equipped with excellent facilities, in five D.T.L. trap layouts, spacious club rooms with office, bar, kitchen and good toilet and shower amenities. It also has powered sites available for caravan and tent campers on the ground. These were in full use by some of the two hundred and seven shooters who attended the Carnival from all over Queensland, with visitors from South Australia in e Well known shooters at the Queensland State Carnival, L to R Len Shanco, David Howe, Doug Smith and Bradley Bursteed. John and Sue Byrnes and Gary Smith from Melbourne, Victoria. It was a record field for a Queensland trap Carnival with G. Huff from Rockhampton shooting 85/85 to win the State Double Barrel Championship from Richard Dean Bris- bane 84/85. THE GREAT Doug Smith from Brisbane shot a clean 50150 to win the State Single Barrel, with the Point Score going to Ray Collinson, Burdekin 1671168. Shooters to make the Queens- land team'were J. Porter, K. Stevens, R. Simpson, D. Stevens. T. Halpin, R. Rehbein, W. Stevens, K. Ward, B. Busteed, R. Dean, D. Smith, R. Collinson. G. Cross, G. Webster and W. Francis. The Ladies team consisted of V. Deeiey, C. Young, R. Dieckman, K. Pietzner, K. Rehbein and Queensland State Bob Dupuy, .Winchester Australia, presents Graham Jawis with his sash and trophy. Secretary. Bev Grice. The Junior team consisted of D. Shaw, R. Rehbein, D. Wright. R. Porter, P. Garz and C. Taylor. The Carnival was a credit to the organizers, and through this column, I extend my personal thanks to the Council of the Queensland Clay Target Association for their welcome and hospitality. Also the Gemfields Gun Club committee and members, and all shooters present, who worked so hard to make sure. all con~peting, could enjoy our sport of clay taxget shooting. Saturday May 8, 1982 I arrived in Brisbane and attended the pre-Nationals being conducted by the Brisbane Gun Club prior to the commencement of our National Championships. I was impressed with the grounds and could see a considerable amount of work had been put into their preparation. This ground, will also be used for the Commonwealth Games later this year, so it was not surprising to see some of the Games ground personnel present, on occasions during the tournament. The 1982 Nationals in my opinion were a great success, however numbers were slightly below the organizer's expectations. The tournament will be well reported elsewhere, so will not go into detail here. As I have been one to support our top D.T.L. shooters to gain further experience by sending them overseas. I was interested to see who would make the 1982 Great Britain Team. My congratulations go to Larry Dimasi, Mildura, Victoria, Bill nes, Melbourne, Victoria, Kevin Perkins, Sydney N.S.W. and Pud Burgess, Cobar, N.S.W., who were in top form to make it on a first past the post selection, in the National Double Barrel, Single Barrel, Australia New Zealand Trap Championship and their scores in the Machtoch teams match. Our Executive Director, Ian Hill has been selected as manager of the team and I am confident clay target shooting in Australia will benefit from this venture. The Annual General meeting of the Association was held on Monday May 17, 1982, during the Nationals Championships. It was well attended by delegates and observers. The 1981 Annud Report had been published in the May C.T.S.N. giving all delegates the opportunity to read and study same, prior to attending the Annual General meeting. This was a first for your Association, but will be general practice in the future. Mr. Bill Hall, Accountant representing the firm of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, was present at the meeting to answer my queries delegates may have had on the balance sheet. It was pleasing to see it was accepted with it being noted that the Executive had acted in areas requested by delegates at the 1981 Annual General meeting. The main agenda item, the 1983 fee increase of standard adult registration $30.00. second family member $15.00, Veteran concession $15.00 was put to the ballot and was carried. Th~sday M8y 20, 1982 An Executive meeting was held in Brisbane on this day, and it was pleasing to note all States were represented at the meeting, including the Northern Territory.
