A Grand Goodbye
Caryn King
“When I think of Don, three words come to
mind: spirit, heart, and soul. Spirit reminds
me of Don's unique temperament and
positive disposition. Heart reminds me of
Don's compassion and goodwill that has
helped me and many others through difficult
times. Soul reminds me of Don's love and
high regard for others; he is truly a selfless
individual. And because of his generous
spirit, kind heart and virtuous soul, he has
made each one of us a better human being.
Don – you will be greatly missed, but you
will be always be close in our hearts!”
Linda McCrea
“Don has been a mentor to many of us and
perhaps to some of you in the room today.
It was not always an assigned role, but one
that he willingly assumed.”
Nancy Patterson
“Professor Pottorff was the heart and soul
of the Reading/Language Arts program.
His quiet leadership and gentle manner
were an inspiration to not only our students
and faculty, but to many others beyond
the boundaries of GVSU.”
John Shinsky
John Shinsky recalled Don’s humanitarian
work and his support of children in need
around the world.
Priscilla Hill Gregels
“The roses may be red,
I’m told the violets are blue.
I have no special poem prepared
To share, this day, with you.”
“Best wishes in all you do and always know
the positive difference you make in the lives
of everyone fortunate enough to know you.”
