2.2.3. Classificati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Carb<strong>on</strong> Nanotubes<br />

When a graphene sheet is rolled into tubular form, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> structure can be in three<br />

different c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong>s such as; armchair, zigzag, and finally chiral carb<strong>on</strong> nanotube.<br />

The formati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> three different CNTs are shown in Figure 2.6.<br />

As shown in Figure 2.7, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> orientati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> chiral vector is<br />

where a1 and a2 are <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> unit base cell vectors <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> graphene h<strong>on</strong>eycomb lattice and n and<br />

m are integers. The diameter <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> CNT is determined by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> (n,m) or (m,n) indices called<br />

„chirality‟ (Dai 2002). „Chiral angle (θ)‟ is known as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> angle between <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> chiral vector<br />

(Ch) and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> unit vector (a1), which determines <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> directi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> chiral vector and<br />

gives informati<strong>on</strong> about orientati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> CNTs.<br />
