<strong>Mary</strong> MacKillop <strong>Primary</strong> School, Narre Warren Nth<br />

Assessment data and feedback-The Project management team began <strong>to</strong> explore feedback<br />

practises in our school and deepening our understanding of <strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>to</strong> inform<br />

practise. This work will continue in<strong>to</strong> 2012. Analysis of formal assessment data continues <strong>to</strong><br />

be a focus in planning for school, level, class and individuals. Assessment days in February,<br />

<strong>the</strong> diocesan assessment schedule, Naplan data and class assessments were all utilised <strong>to</strong><br />

improve student learning.<br />

Literacy and Numeracy Special Learning Needs Students (LNSLN)- Our school<br />

continues <strong>to</strong> value <strong>the</strong> learning needs of all students, a number of which qualify for additional<br />

assistance through <strong>the</strong> Government funded special learning needs funding. In <strong>2011</strong>, thirtyfour<br />

students across all year levels accessed this funding with many needing support for<br />

severe language disorder.<br />

Additional support programs<br />

We offer <strong>the</strong> STA- Speech Therapy Assistance intervention program <strong>to</strong> students who need<br />

support in literacy achievement in particular oral language. EMU- Extending Ma<strong>the</strong>matically<br />

Understanding is a support program offered <strong>to</strong> year one students <strong>to</strong> assist with developing<br />

number skills. In <strong>2011</strong>, 12 students participated in this program conducted by an EMU<br />

trained teacher.<br />

ANALYSIS OF NAPLAN DATA<br />

In year 3 numeracy <strong>the</strong> percentage of students reaching national minimum standards was<br />

pleasing and above that of like schools. Results in year 3 reading and grammar and<br />

punctuation were certainly lower than expected and an area that will need fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

investigation and moni<strong>to</strong>ring. The improvement in year 3 spelling is positive as this has<br />

been a focus area for P-2 in <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

Numeracy, writing and reading in year 5 achieved excellent results. Our result for year 5<br />

writing was higher than like schools and continues <strong>to</strong> be strength. Grammar and punctuation<br />

and spelling are highlighted as areas <strong>to</strong> focus on for improvement.<br />

It is important <strong>to</strong> note that 13 LNSLN students (8.7% of year 3 & 5 cohort)) who are funded<br />

for serve language are included in our school results.<br />
