During the four week stay in Ensenada we put an-
other 10 hours on the Yanmar 500ʼs fi shing local waters.
October 10th we left for Cabo. The plan was to run days
only @15-16 kts so we could reach the warmer water and
spend a day or two fi shing. This required the use of a 200
gallon fuel bladder for the Ensenada to Turtle Bay run, and
again on the Turtle Bay to Mag Bay run. We could have run
at 8-9 kts without the extra fuel but we wanted to make
it to Cabo in time for the Bisbeeʼs Tournament. Caught
some Dorado & Yellow Fin Tuna which we grilled on the
BBQ. Excellent!
After 56 hours run time we reached Cabo where
we participated in the Bisbeeʼs Tournament. Let me tell
you – there is nothing like a 185 boat shotgun start on

each of the three-day Bisbee event! Boats range
from 20 foot pangas to 120 foot mega yachts!
All fl at out to reach a spot on each of the two 40
square mile fi shing grids.
We caught lots of Dorado during the Bisbeeʼs
which is a good tasting fi sh but does nothing
toward total weight in a Marlin only Tournament!
Turns out the total purse was in excess of
$2,500,000. A Marlin weighing in at around 641
lbs. paid around $1,100,000 to the winning boat.
Not bad for a day in the warm Cabo sun!
The last 300 miles of our 2400 mile trip was
a straight shot from Cabo to Puerto Vallarta. We
left @ 1700 and ran @ 15 kts until 2200 the cut
back to 9 kts for the next 12 hours. The fi nal 90
miles or so we ran @ 15 kts which put us in Paradise
Village @ 1400. Total time this leg around
23 hours.
The Koulakani has been in Paradise Village
Marina since November 1st, 2005. I make the PV
run every three weeks to make sure all is well in
Bandares Bay. Fishing has been great!
