“And during the time<br />

of the Senate since 2007,<br />

we passed two state budgets<br />

that were smaller each<br />

time than the year before,”<br />

he said. “We are one of<br />

the few states that are fully<br />

funded in our state employee<br />

pension fund.”<br />

Ramsey said he supported<br />

“doing away with<br />

the Death Tax,” or the inheritance<br />

tax, and was<br />

happy the legislature had<br />

done away with the “Gift<br />

Tax.”<br />

He said <strong>Tennessee</strong> was<br />

“setting a standard in education.”<br />

“Nothing makes a difference<br />

in a child’s education<br />

like quality teachers<br />

in the classroom,” Ramsey<br />

said. “But tenure for<br />

teachers is something<br />

teachers earn. It’s not just<br />

given. Therefore, we<br />

shouldn’t have collective<br />

bargaining by teachers,<br />

but we should have new<br />

ways of evaluating our<br />

teachers, and for the first<br />

time, we have started focusing<br />

on graduating students,<br />

not just enrolling<br />

them in school.”<br />

Ramsey ended his address<br />

with reaffirming the<br />

Republican Party’s commitment<br />

to “pro life” and<br />

to upholding the rights of<br />

gun ownership as guaranteed<br />

in the Second<br />

Amendment.<br />

“This fall we are placing<br />

on the ballot a resolution<br />

to protect the life of a<br />

fetus,” he said. “The unborn<br />

have rights.”<br />

Ramsey said that two<br />

years ago he “led the<br />

charge” to issue legal<br />

handgun permits, “and the<br />

Taylor and a female<br />

entered a home on<br />

July 22, 2012 and took<br />

thousands of dollars. The<br />

home was not open to the<br />

public and the couple<br />

owning the home did not<br />

give Taylor permission to<br />

go inside the habitation.<br />

On the same day, Taylor<br />

and the female took a 1999<br />

Toyota Tacoma from a<br />

second victim, who also<br />

did not provide permission<br />

to be on her property<br />

nor take the vehicle.<br />

Following his weekend<br />

booking at the <strong>Monroe</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> Jail – his 14th intake<br />

- Taylor remained in<br />

custody on $10,000 bond.<br />

Gourley<br />
