“And during the time
that I have been Speaker
of the Senate since 2007,
we passed two state budgets
that were smaller each
time than the year before,”
he said. “We are one of
the few states that are fully
funded in our state employee
pension fund.”
Ramsey said he supported
“doing away with
the Death Tax,” or the inheritance
tax, and was
happy the legislature had
done away with the “Gift
Tax.”
He said Tennessee was
“setting a standard in education.”
“Nothing makes a difference
in a child’s education
like quality teachers
in the classroom,” Ramsey
said. “But tenure for
teachers is something
teachers earn. It’s not just
given. Therefore, we
shouldn’t have collective
bargaining by teachers,
but we should have new
ways of evaluating our
teachers, and for the first
time, we have started focusing
on graduating students,
not just enrolling
them in school.”
Ramsey ended his address
with reaffirming the
Republican Party’s commitment
to “pro life” and
to upholding the rights of
gun ownership as guaranteed
in the Second
Amendment.
“This fall we are placing
on the ballot a resolution
to protect the life of a
fetus,” he said. “The unborn
have rights.”
Ramsey said that two
years ago he “led the
charge” to issue legal
handgun permits, “and the

According to the indictment,
Taylor and a female
entered a home on
July 22, 2012 and took
thousands of dollars. The
home was not open to the
public and the couple
owning the home did not
give Taylor permission to
go inside the habitation.
On the same day, Taylor
and the female took a 1999
Toyota Tacoma from a
second victim, who also
did not provide permission
to be on her property
nor take the vehicle.
Following his weekend
booking at the Monroe
County Jail – his 14th intake
- Taylor remained in
custody on $10,000 bond.

into the jail, Gourley
