ATCHLEY, BEN W., age 78,<br />

of Madisonville, passed away<br />

3:00 p.m. Monday, January<br />

7, 2013 at home after a 3<br />

year battle with cancer. He<br />

was a well known businessman<br />

and civic leader. He was<br />

a charter member of the<br />

<strong>Monroe</strong> <strong>County</strong> Rescue<br />

Squad. His greatest love besides<br />

his family was coaching<br />

youth sports for 40 years including<br />

basketball, football<br />

and baseball. He was a role<br />

model for thousands of children.<br />

He was a member of<br />

First Baptist Church of Madisonville<br />

and was a veteran of<br />

the United States Army. Preceded<br />

in death by parents,<br />

Jack and Flora Atchley, sister,<br />

Valarie Atchley Robertson<br />

and brother, Joe Atchley. He<br />

leaves his wife of 57 years,<br />

he settled in Akron<br />

as a teenager and lived a full<br />

life here. He owned and operated<br />

L&S Rubbish and retired<br />

from AMHA. In<br />

retirement he spent his time<br />

catering to his grandchildren,<br />

driving truck for his nephew,<br />

David, and holding down a<br />

chair at Slaughter Tire. Preceded<br />

in death by his father<br />

and mother, William M. Millsaps<br />

and Ida Mae Millsaps-<br />

Freeman; stepfather, John<br />

Freeman; brother, John; sisters,<br />

Stella, Geneva and Carolyn;<br />

father and<br />

mother-in-law, Michael and<br />
