Dharapuram is situated on west side of the river Amaravathi. Dharapuram Town has a
corporate area of 7.02 Sq.kms and getting developed on the north direction along
Dharapuram - Coimbatore Road, South Direction along Dharapuram Alani Road and
west along Pollachi Road.
Under Town and Country Planning Act 1971, the responsibility of preparing and
executing the Master plan for a Local Planning Area vests with the Local Planning
Authority. Accordingly, Dharapuram Local planning area was notified under section
10(1) in G.O.Ms No 2030 dated September 1973 and confirmed by Government under
section 10 (4) of the act in G.O.Ms. No.652 RD& LA department dated 16.3.1974 and
confirmed by Government under section 11(1) of the said act in G.O.Ms.no 651 RD&
LA Department dated 1975. Master plan was prepared and approved by the
Government under the section 28 of Tamilnadu town and country planning Act 1971 in
G.O.Ms. No.230 H&UD department dated 19.2.1991 and published in Tamilnadu
Government Gazette.
On examining the proposed land use plan sanctioned during 1991 with the latest 2001
existing land use plan, some discrepancies were observed. Accordingly, the modified
master plan for the year 2021 was prepared based on land use surveys conducted during
May 2001.
