Robots
By POOR RICHARD
Personal rohoti are now available. For juft B49 a
month for 10 months you can buy a fully assembled little
robot. The catalog even brags that he (not It) can fetch
your suppers, entertain your guests, talk to you when you
•re lonely, or ling te you when you are blue. The ial«
pitch continues: "Open your home and heart to this little
m"
In an age where robots are being heralded as good
additions to our factories and even our homes, let us see
again the beauty of our humanness. God made ui to be
free will, unprogrammed peoplj capable of caring,
loving, and choosing. Too often we have been program*
med by our environment to be like robots In meeting the
demands of our daily routine.
The Bible says that we are not to let ourselves be robot!.
We are not to let our personality and conduct be in
reaction te our environment Rather, as people nude in
fee image of God, we are to find our identity and purpote
from our heredity —our Father in heaven and our brother
and saviour, Jena.
Our heredity as Christians to love.
Our personality, conduct, and purpote In all of our
living U meant to b« love True love Is to want the beet for
others — even people whom we may not like or who are
our enemies. Real love includes doing all that the robot
doet (fetch slippers, taDt to the lonely, etc,;, But Christian
love does such loving acts because we want to — not
because we are so programmed.
And, Christ taught that people with God's love will do
more than Is required of them. When we are required as
robots of the world to carry a person's burden one mile,
Jesus says Out we should off er to carry it two mile*.
The world Is big on making robots out of electronics and
out of people. Jesus calls us to find again our salvation and
our heredity—to be people of love in a robotic world.
