one which went something like
this: "Here lies the body of
John Smith, who lived forty
years with his wife and
departed in the hnpe of a hptter
life,"
A saying like this will bring a
wry smile to the face of some,
and a trown lo me taee of
others It reflects a hit of folk
humor which is now largelv lost
On the American scene Our
burial customs have changed,
and the colorful epitaphs are
only remembrances of another
generation or another century
Whoever the departed may
have been, he experienced one
of the great moments of life,
and apparently with mixed
feelings Perhaps if we are
honest we all have some ar"
