This weeks Who's Who, Charlotte EJias, is the
Band field conductor
Who's who this week
Last year, Charlotte Elias
was named field conductor for
the 1974-75 Marching Band
Mason. Charlotte is now the
fourth girl to hold this position
in the history of OCHS,
"Being the fourth girl isn't
really a big thing, " said
aiarlotte, "it's just the ex
citement of being able to take
charge of the band I am both
happy and proud that I have the
honor,
"Ididn't think that I would be
able to do it because of my
heigjt. Many people told me I
was too ihort. But then there
were some who said that you
have to do your best and you'll
make it. And they were right!
"I think the band will be very
successful this year. They
sound fantastic and everyone is
really working hard to make
things go right. 1 think we will
surprise a lot of people when we
perform
"I don't think that the band
needs much improvement
music wise. However, we in the
band need to build up our
morale There are so many
people putting the band down
and yet you don't see them
trying to help make it better.
We have a good, hard-working
band, but our reputation is not
good because our own
schoolmates make fun of us.
How can we be luceessful if our
own school wont accept us?
Thii doesn't only upset me, but
it upsets the band. We need
support. People want a larger
color guard and majorettes'
squads, but we can't have a
larger squad because no one
supports us. If and when they
do, we will have a title just like
other bands in the county If
people would just think positive
when they hear us, they would
realize that we are just as good
as the rest,
"I have been with the band
for five years, I played for three
years and then joined the color
ruard squad. I've had plenty of
experience marching, but not
much conducting experience I
went to West Chester State
College over the summer to a
band camp, which was very
good. I learned a lot about
conducting and numerous ways
of miking myself acceptable to
the audience. I think that I am
plenty ready for the new
marching season "
The freshman team in
The heart of our team is the
weigh about 90 pounds and are
under five feet They may be
guts, Our team is small, but I
scouted our first game opponents,
Jackion, and they're
just about the same size as us
We should do well this season
and I think we are better
prepared this year. We're
basically a running team.
"Our offensive strsngth is a
the purpose of the club is to
let students participate in
cultural activities that can not
be taught in the classroom.
Certain activities are
traditional to the club, such as
their annual trip to New York
restaurant and try to see g
theater production which
relates to French, They hold a
French dinner in the spring at
Mrs. Pancoast's house, where
committees of students prepare
the various courses. They have
heard lectures and seen glide
presentations on France and
French culture.
Some of the club's activities
are done in conjunction
with the Spanish Club They
meet together to discuss and
