Dear Members,
March is the first month of Autumn and
already we have received more
welcoming rain and green is the colour
around us but at Heimdal it was as usual
the red and white that dominated the
Smørrebrødsaften on Saturday the 8 th of
March.
It has been a very busy month for us in
more ways than one but we managed to
get this newsletter ready for printing
early Sunday evening the 23 rd of March.
We have received heaps of material for
this issue and we were struggling a bit to
get it all to fit in. But once again here it is
and for us only 4 issues to go, see the
advertisement for new editor(s) on page
35.

Meeting at 36 Austin Street, Newstead, on Wednesday, 26 February, 2003

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING:
Minutes of the last meeting 5 February 2003 had been distributed and were taken as read.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:
CORRESPONDENCE:
• A letter was presented at the meeting, immediately after the meeting opened and prior to the
acceptance of the minutes of the last meeting. It was requested that this letter, signed by Arild and
Ann Nielsen, Ann and Jorgen de Voss, and Erik Andersen, proffering their resignations from the
committee, be read immediately. These committee members asked that their resignation letter be
published in the Newsletter. There was a brief discussion, and then the members resigning left the
meeting. The filling of the vacancies was then discussed and it was pointed out that other
(substitute) members could be asked to join the Committee until the next AGM.
• Email from Kim S. Carlsen requesting assistance in finding a job.
• Invitation from the Aussie Music Club for Friday 14 March to our Committee to attend, 7.30pm.
• Ulla contacted by phone, Brisbane Water re letter received re Trade Waste Discharge. It is agreed
that we do not need to apply for a grease trap.
• Department of Natural Resources and Mines – New valuation of our property from $170,000 to
$212,500.
FINANCE:
• Ole Andersen moved that any two of the three - Ulla Turner, Elna Jensen and Ole Andersen – be
authorised to be the signatories to the Association’s Accounts in lieu of the previous signatories.
Seconded: Joan Christensen. Passed by the meeting.
• Ole Andersen moved that the cheques listed on folios 82 and 83 (see attached) be ratified by the
committee. Seconded Alan Przybylak. Agreed
• Elna distributed January 2003 account statements. Ulla and Elna will discuss the allocation of
cheque payment to various expenditure categories.
• Ole reported re Insurance. As discussed last meeting we have paid $3309 for our insurance,
including a $5million public liability. The cost of raising Public Liability to $10m would cost $1600
extra. The Committee decided that this extra cover and expense was not warranted. It was noted
that the Aussie Music Club under our agreement with them will be taking out a $10million Public
Liability cover.
• The agreement with the Aussie Music Club is nearing finalisation. (One Friday a month will be
shared with the Folk Dancers to satisfaction of both.) A copy of the proposed agreement – from 21
March for one year, the Aussie Music Club members being associate members of our Club, they
have their own liquor licence, etc. 3 Fridays and 3 Saturdays and every Sunday after 4pm each
month, is allocated to them. They will take out Public Liability Insurance for $10million, they will be

esponsible for any damage to the Club, properly supervise their functions, etc., use of facilities, but
various cleaning is specified, can put a sign up, paying $11000pa, security bond of $2500,
termination on 3 months notice for no reason, or one month’s notice if agreement breached. They
will have their own refrigerator. Ole Andersen moved that the format of this agreement be approved
and that the President be approved to sign on behalf of the Association. Seconded Elna Jensen.
Agreed by the Committee.
• Enquiry by a Samba School for a weekly Wednesday hiring. Under discussion.
• The Committee agreed that Alan Przybylak would take over the work of the Bar. A stocktake will be
taken soon. Ulla will enquire about the liquor licence that has been applied for.

LAST FUNCTION:
• Fastelavn – takings $410 in Kitchen. $197 in Lolly Shop. $120 received for Advertising. $170.00
banked for Bar. Very little profit, given expenses for the function.
FUTURE CLUB FUNCTIONS:
• Ulla’s Café 28 February. Independent Magazine wants to do an article on the Club. Photographer
will be here about 8pm to take photos. It will be for the local weekly free newspaper. 15 students
coming that evening. So will have open sandwiches (more photogenic!!). Ulla will start making the
sandwiches early, and David will do coffee and wienbrod.
• Smorbrodsaften - 8 March - Scott Sinclair booked for music for the evening. Food discussed –
who is to do what!! $30/$35. And at this function Frank Nissen Wiis, Ridder af Danebrog, will be
given Honorary Membership. Flowers? Some sort of certificate?
• Discussion re fridges – that to make room for the new fridge (Aussie Music Club) – perhaps one of
the Committee members could take this home and mind it until required.
12 April - Big band – The Good Time Band - we had for the Scandinavian Ball. Aage would like
detail for magazine early as he and Yrsa are going to Denmark 12 April until late May.
24 May – Danish Wedding – Preben Nielsen MC for evening. Nibbles & white wine. Snaps & sild.
Company coming in to serve the main course. Probably $35/$40.
June? To be decided.
MAINTENANCE OF CLUB PREMISES
• Many thanks to Alan Przybylak for the supply and installation of bigger rolls of Toilet paper and their
holders.
• New front door keys. New keys have been given to Folk Dancers, Aussie Music Club, Swiss Club (3
keys), Ole Andersen, Elna Jensen, Ulla Turner, Church group.
• Ant problem. Pest control? Use some AntRid?

PRESIDENTS LETTER
Five of the Committee members elected at the last Annual General Meeting resigned at our
committee meeting on 26 February 2003. I regret very much that they have seen resignation as
their only option.
I would like to thank Arild and Ann Nielsen, Jorgen and Ann De Voss, and Erik Andersen for their
many contributions to the running of the Association over their respective term of office.
The letter of resignation does contain some very general allegations which prompt more
questions and innuendo than the real situation deserves, and I feel I should make a few
comments at this time.
It is true that as President I have had to make decisions relating to various functions in the time
between the monthly Committee meetings but every account paid by the Association has been
ratified by the Committee, and every decision relating to the Associations’ dealings with the
Swiss Club, the Aussie Music Club, and all dealings with outsiders have been discussed and
considered by the Committee before any agreements binding on the Association have been
finalised.
I also think most members will accept that some authority has to be given to a President of an
association which only meets monthly, to make some changes to arrangements for functions
and other minor things, without the need to call another Committee meeting. I try as far as I can
to telephone other Committee members to get their input. But at the end of the day, the function
has to go ahead and I believe that its up to me to solve any problem affecting the function
without having to bother all other Committee members.
Enough of that. Its time to move on.
I am very pleased to say that the Committee has been able to find some excellent candidates to
fill the vacant positions. Some have had previous experience on the Committee, and all have
enormous goodwill for the Danish Club, so I am confident that the future of the Club is in good
hands.
Under Rule 13, the following members have been appointed to fill, until the next annual general
meeting, the casual vacancies resulting from these resignations:

The duties of Membership Officer, previously handled by Ann De Voss, will be taken over by the

Cabaret's "Music makes the World go
Round!" Or is it "Stop the World I want
to get off!" You hear people talk about
how stressed and tired they are, well join
the club, such is life! We all have our
problems but hey it is not all bad.
I hear that a wonderful Smørrebrødsaften
was had by about 80 people at Heimdal
on 8 th of March. They witnessed the
acceptance of a new Honorary Member of
Heimdal, Frank Nissen-Wiss, Ridder af
Dannebrog, former Danish Consul in
Brisbane, former President of the Danish
Club Heimdal, husband of lovely Jean,
father, grandfather, friend and a
gentleman. Frank we all appreciate you
very much and I think this, your new
"status", in the Heimdal association, is
very much deserved.
Frank Nissen-Wiis received a framed
certificate and two Holmegaard
candlesticks as gifts from Heimdal.

Nielsen, and his wife Eileen, sent a
congratulatory telegram which was read
out and translated into English. The

honorary member and his guests were
seated at the main table with a white
tablecloth, all other tables were with red
tablecloths. Fresh roses and candlesticks
made for a beautiful setting. The food was
praised by many guests and Mrs. Jean
Nissen-Wiis gave a special thank you to
the kitchen staff.
President Ulla Turner wishes, on behalf of
the Committee, to add her thank you to
the kitchen staff for all their hard work.
Hip hip hooray from Ulla!
Another celebration at the
Smørrebrødsfest was an 80 th birthday.
Børge Skibby received birthday cake with
a candle and the singing of Happy
Birthday and for the new Honorary
Member and birthday boy the singing of
"de skal leve højt HURRA!!"
The contract between Heimdal and The
Aussie Mucic Blub has been signed and
on Friday the 14 th of March the
Committee was invited to the Aussie
Music Club's first function at Heimdal.

Ulla Turner and other committee
members were there and Ulla reports of a
lovely evening with a bunch of young
people playing to their hearts content and
more importantly to the listeners content.
It was a great evening, says Ulla. The
parents of the young musicians were there
to look after that all was well, including
no underage drinking. All the young
musicians were escorted to their car after
the function. One of the fathers was
meeting guests at the door making sure
they signed the Guest Book. Coffee and
tea with sandwiches and other goodies
were served from the kitchen. They
needed a hand with the dishwasher but
apart from that they had no problems
settling in. The Club was left neat and
tidy after their function. Ulla says she
feels convinced this new "partnership"
will be great for Heimdal. All Heimdal's
members are invited to attend their
functions. (See page 29 for more
information elsewhere in this
Newsletter/:Editor).
A Danish family Randi, Peter, Emma and
Sebastian Terkildsen, who settled in
Brisbane in November 2002 attended the
Christmas Bazaar and sent a letter to Ulla
Turner about their experience. Ulla
passed the letter on to me. The letter is
published on page 16 with Randi's
consent.
Unfortunately the Therkildsen family was
very disappointed and did not feel very
welcome at Heimdal. I find that really
sad and wonder how we, longtime
members, can avoid that happening in the
future. I was reading an old Newsletter
and saw that the then committee discussed
setting up a welcome committee (group)
to look after and introduce visitors to the

old timers and vice versa. Sounds like a
good idea. In practical terms I think this
means that a couple of people volunteer to
meet people at the door and simply ask if
they have been here before? If the answer
is no, they are taken "by the hand" to
write themselves in the Guest Book and
pay for whatever is required at the
particular function. Then introduce them
to a few people and all being well the
newcomers will soon feel as part of the
Heimdal Family.
I would like to say to the Therkildsen
Family: "Give us another go, come to the
next Ulla's Cafe on 28 th of March." This
is a very informal evening where we get a
good chance to have a talk over a cup of
coffee or a cold drink. Hope to see you
there!
When we as a family of five first arrived
at a Heimdal function, a "BBQ in the
Park", we were welcomed by several
people and invited to share chairs and
table with people we, of course, had
never met. It is never easy to be new in a
group, let alone in a new country with no
family and friends around you for
support, advice and assistance. This
makes it so much more important for us,
who have lived here for years now, to do
our best to make new visitors feel at home
amongst us. This is a bit of a wake up
call, let us listen and live up to the
challenge!
I for one find the suggestions of games of
"rundbold" excellent as I loved to play
that and another couple of favorites were
"hjørnekikkert" , "tagbold" and "dåseleg".
If we do not teach the children those
games soon they will be forgotten. This
was partly my thought when I tried to get
the boys to participate in the songgames

at Fastelavn. But you need a group of
people to play those games. Where are
you young parents with your children to
organise "A day of games in the Park?"
Lately I have decided on a new hobby and
joined a choir. Reading Randi
Terkildsen's email it gave me the idea that
this would be just right for Heimdal's
members and friends: A choir. We could
meet once a week and sing Danish songs
from Højskolesangbogen and/or other, we
could sing English songs and have so
much fun. Unfortunately I cannot read
music or conduct/direct so I am appealing
to someone out there who can, and I can
promise; You already have one alto singer
for the Heimdal Choir. Let's do it!
Now to the near future: Easter is fast
approaching and the celebration this year
at Heimdal's is with self serve Buffet and
then the floor will be cleared for dancing
with The Good Time Band, wellknown to
guests at the Grand Ball at the Sheraton.
Aage and I are planning to be heading off
to Europe before Easter and we will be
editing the next Newsletter on the road or
in the air. Please continue to send us
material for publicing the earlier the
better, ideally no later than the 10 th of
April, as we will set up as much as
possible of the next Newsletter before we
go.
It is to be a holiday after all!!!
Enough from me for now, I must go and
put on a face as we are going out for
dinner tonight. Hooray someone is
cooking but not me!

Sygehuse bereder sig på superinfluenza

Den aggressive lungesygdom, som har spredt
sig i Sydøstasien, er formentlig kommet til
Europa, efter en læge fra Singapore lørdag
blev indlagt og isoleret på et hospital i
Frankfurt med symptomer på den frygtede
superinfluenza.
Flere udbrud af en mystisk og dødbringende
influenzalignende sygdom i Sydøstasien får
nu de danske sundhedsmyndigheder til at
advare landets embedslæger og sygehuse om
at være opmærksomme på hjemvendte
danskere med symptomer på smitte. Dukker
der hjemvendte turister op fra Hong Kong,
Hanoi og det sydlige Kina, som frygtes
smittet med lungesygdommen, skal de straks
isoleres.
Den ukendte sygdom, som betegnes SARS,
akut åndedrætssyndrom, er tilsyneladende på
vej til at sprede sig fra Sydøstasien, og FN´s
verdenssundhedsorganisation WHO
betegnede lørdag den frygtede sygdom som
en "verdensomspændende helbredstrussel".
Lørdag eftermiddag kom det første tilfælde af
SARS formentlig til Europa, da en læge fra
Singapore blev indlagt og isoleret på
Wolfgang Goethe Universitetshospitalet i
Frankfurt under et transitophold på vej fra
New York til Singapore.
Den syge læge, som havde behandlet nogle af
de første patienter i Singapore, blev taget af
flyet, og han blev indlagt under karantæne.
De øvrige flypassagerer blev holdt i
karantæne i lufthavnen.
Ifølge WHO er der i den forløbne uge

rapporteret mere end 150 nye tilfælde af den
atypiske lungebetændelse, hovedparten i
Hong Kong, Hanoi, Singapore og Sydkina,
men lørdag meldte WHO også om nye
tilfælde i Malaysia og Taiwan, ligesom
sygdommen ifølge nyhedsbureauet AP har
kostet to canadiere livet.
»Vi følger situationen meget nøje. Det
foruroligende ved sygdommen er, at man
endnu ikke ved, om der er tale om en
influenza eller en lungebetændelse, men den
er under alle omstændigheder meget smitsom,
så det kunne dreje sig om en influenzavirus.
Den responderer ikke på nogen form for
antibiotika,« siger Nils Strandberg Pedersen,
direktør for Statens Serum Institut.
På baggrund af WHO's udmeldinger har
Seruminstituttet advaret landets embedslæger,
infektionsmedicinske afdelinger, kliniske
mikrobiologer og skadestuer om, at personer,
som kommer hjem fra området omkring Hong
Kong, Hanoi og Sydkina med symptomer på
den influenzalignende sygdom skal isoleres.
»Men der er grund til at understrege, at det
indtil videre kun gælder folk, som har været
ude at rejse i præcis disse områder indenfor
de seneste 14 dage,« siger Nils Strandberg
Pedersen.
Heller ikke de mange hundredetusinde
danskere, som i disse dage plages af den
aktuelle influenzaepidemi, har noget at frygte,
påpeger han.
De første tilfælde af den alvorlige
lungesygdom ramte i sidste måned Kinas
sydlige Guandongprovins, hvor flere end tre
hundrede mennesker blev syge, og fem døde.
I slutningen af februar blev en 48-årig
amerikansk forretningsmand, som netop
havde opholdt sig i Shanghai, indlagt på et

hospital i Hanoi med symptomer på alvorlig
lungebetændelse. Her smittede han omkring
30 hospitalsansatte, inden han blev overført til
et hospital i Hong Kong, hvor han også nåede
at smitte cirka 30 ansatte, inden han døde af
lungebetændelse. En del af det smittede
plejepersonale er nu meget svært angrebet og
indlagt på intensiv afdeling.
»Stemningen er derfor anspændt i hele
området, og vi følger situationen nøje.
Symptomerne er influenzalignende, startende
med feber, hoste og muskelsmerter, som
hurtigt udvikler sig til vejrtrækningsbesvær,«
siger Nils Strandberg Pedersen.
Mens superinfluenzaen således vækker stor
international bekymring, forløber den
hjemlige epidemi med influenza-A og -B
langt roligere, selv om hundredetusinde
danskere i denne tid er henvist til sengen.
Den aktuelle influenzaepidemi lægger
klasselokaler næsten øde, er skyld i stribevis
af aflyste møder og giver småbørnsforældrene
akutte pasningsproblemer.
Det er dog intet at regne for de problemer,
som influenza-epidemier gennem århundreder
har pådraget menneskeheden.

Hver tredje dansker vil boykotte USA

Danskernes modstand mod amerikansk
enegang i en kommende krig mod Saddam
Hussein kommer til udtryk i en Gallup-måling
i Berlingske Tidende i dag.
Ifølge målingen er 35 pct. af danskerne parate
til at deltage i en boykot af amerikanske
varer.
61 pct. siger samtidig klart nej til dansk støtte
til en militær operation, der indledes uden om
FN. Til gengæld er der - som ved de seneste
meningsmålinger - fortsat et klart ja til en krig

mod Irak, hvis det sker med FN-mandat. Det
støtter 64 pct. af befolkningen.

Folketinget vedtager dansk deltagelse i
Irak-krigen
21. marts 2003
Statsminister Anders Fogh Rasmussen på
pressemødet efter at Folketinget vedtog at
danske styrker deltager i krigen mod Irak.
Med stemmer fra Dansk Folkeparti fik
regeringen i dag Folketingets opbakning til at
fortsætte deres kurs mod en dansk militær
indsats i Irak-krigen, siger Ritzau.
Den snævre vedtagelse betyder, at Danmark
nu bidrager med ubåden Sælen, korvetten
Olfert Fischer og et lægehold til den
amerikansk ledede krig mod Irak. I alt
indsætter Danmark mellem 150 og 160 mand
i krigen.
Ubåden Sælen er allerede fremme i den
Persiske Golf, og korvetten Olfert Fischer kan
være fremme midt i april.
Afstemningen og den efterfølgende
vedtagelse kom efter ni timers ophedet debat i
Folketinget, der ikke flyttede holdningerne
nævneværdigt.
De fem oppositionspartier fastholdte, at det

var i strid med folkeretten:
- Om få timer er Danmark krigsførende i Irak.
Vi mener, det er forkert, sagde Niels Helveg
Petersen fra Det Radikale Venstre under
debatten.
De fem oppositionspartier er enige om, at
regeringen bidrager til at undergrave den
internationale retsorden ved at støtte en krig
uden om FN.
De peger på, at blot fire ud af de femten lande
i FN's Sikkerhedsråd ønskede krigen få dage
inden den gik i gang torsdag.
Regeringen afviste at være på juridisk usikker

Tusinder demonstrerer i København
22. marts 2003
Flere tusinde mennesker samlede sig i dag
ved USAs ambassade i København for at
demonstrere mod det militære angreb på Irak.
Demonstranterne gik også forbi den britiske
og den spanske ambassade, inden den efter
planen skulle videre til Christiansborg.
"Fogh har blod på hænderne", stod der på et
banner, og der var jubel, da SF's formand,
Holger K. Nielsen, og Enhedslistens Line
Barfod i deres taler gik skarpt i rette med
USA's og Danmarks politik.
Politiet var talstærkt til stede. En af
demonstranterne blev anholdt for at have
kastet med æg, oplyser politiets talsmand.
Også i hundreder af byer verden over er der i
dag anti-krigsdemonstrationer.
I Australien har krigsmodstandere
demonstreret for tredje dag i træk mod, at
deres land er med i krigen.
I det muslimske Bangladesh har en
generalstrejke mod krigen lukket skoler og
forretninger, og i Indonesien, der har den
største muslimske befolkning i verden, har
3.000 demonstranter råbt slagord foran den
amerikanske ambassade i Jakarta.
I Hyde Park i London ventes i eftermiddag
flere hundrede tusinde fredsdemonstranter.
Demonstrationen ventes dog at blive noget
mindre end den i februar, hvor over en
million protesterede i Londons gader mod
premierminister Tony Blairs politik.

Jeg har dd læst klubbens medlemsblad for marts måned på hjemmesiden
(danishclubbrisbane.org)/red., og det var med stor interesse, jeg læste indlægget om nye
medlemmer og klubbens fremtid.
Min familie, som er min mand Peter, vores 2 børn Emma og Sebastian, og jeg , flyttede her til
Australien i november måned 2002, dvs. min mand rejste herned et par måneder i forvejen af
praktiske grunde. Han havde kommunikeret (med dig tror jeg nok) om medlemsskab, og
klublivet i Heimdal lød virkelig godt og positivt. Vi var blevet opfordret til at komme og se
klubben, og det glædede vi os til, for kunne vi være til nytte der, ville det jo bare være skønt.
Også at lære nogle nye mennesker at kende og vi var "full of beans". Vi tog op og besøgte
klubben den dag, der var julemarked, i november vist ?? Men må indrømme vi blev slemt
skuffede. Vi kom ind, og som nye er det altså svært at henvende sig til folk, der sidder i grupper
og drikker kaffe mv. Vi følte os absolut alene og ikke særligt velkomne derinde, og derfor
besluttede vi, at vi ikke ville være medlemmer. Hvorfor melde sig ind, hvis der alligevel ikke er
nogle, der gider/har lyst til at snakke med een??
Jeg synes, jeg fornemmer, fra hvad jeg har læst i martsudgaven, og hvad jeg har læst i
decemberudgaven af klubbladet, at bestyrelsen godt er klar over "problemet" med at få nye
medlemmer, og man er opsat på, at der bliver gjort noget. Jeg synes det er dejligt, for for vores
vedkommende her i familien, så er vi kede af , at det var sådan en negativ oplevelse. Man vil
gerne have medlemmerne til at bakke op om de forskellige ting, der foregår. Måske man kunne
lave lidt mere ?? Hvad med eventyrlæsning for børnene, som man gør i nogle bogbutikker,
håndarbejdsaftner, jeg vil vædde med, der sidder mange (også unge) der kan noget med en
symaskine, (selv syr jeg tasker og puder mv.) eller bagedage, der er sikkert nogle, der er
troldmænd i køkkener, og jeg selv kunne godt lide at få et par tips. Man kunne måske så sælge
noget af det, man laver og sige, at en procentdel går til klubben, og på den måde generere lidt
penge i kassen..... Man kunne lave udflugter med børnene til forskellige steder og f.eks.
arrangere rundbold, fodbold osv. Sådan noget er da fantastisk sjovt og giver sammenhold på
tværs.
Jeg ved, at der i forvejen er mange ting på programmet, men hvis man prøvede at få nogle flere
(unge) til at komme med initiativer, så er jeg sikker på, klubben ville blive mere attraktiv at
komme i også for udenforstående, og at de så ville melde sig ind. Hvis vi var sikre på ikke at
blive set på som nogle fjolser, der vil lave alt om, så ville vi selv være aktive, vi har altid været
aktive i Danmark og faktisk med et godt resultat....
Det var ikke meningen, den her mail skulle være et surt opstød, men en kommentar til
indlægget og håber ikke, du tager det som sådan, og hvis du har lyst til at respondere, er du
velkommen.

A good start to our 2003 season began at
Redcliffe, our first visit there and being
Grethe and Kai’s home turf. The map didn’t
indicate a particularly special venue the
course having as near neighbours the sewage
works and a gun club. And that’s the club I
should have selected on this weekend as the
word that would best describe my day is
generally associated with the aforementioned
works. The club turned out to be a good
public venue with nicely grassed fairways
and, considering the rain, the greens were cut
short and played well, good enough for
Grethe to take only 29 puts which was 4
better than Kai in ‘A’ grade. Talk about local
knowledge. The map also showed the course
was on Hayes Inlet indicating a flat type of
layout but there was surprising elevation in
the middle giving pleasant views about. The
view at hole 2 was good for Hanne as was the
13 th . as here she got the ‘nearest the pin’
prizes with Henrik casting a large shadow
over the seventh with Bill making his
presence felt at the 11 th . In the ‘B’ grade
Richard began this years’ campaign with
81and that was two more than Jens Andersen,
FEBRUARY GOLF
but not too surprisingly Grethe stormed home
with 71. Talk about local knowledge.
Henrik informed us that this was his last game
as he and the family were leaving Australia to
travel back to Denmark, he had been here for
four years but things hadn’t worked out too
well. We wish him luck. He left with a score
of 76 in ‘A’ grade with Kai coming in second
with 74, talk about local knowledge, but the
one with 71 and playing to his handicap (a
credit to the handicapper) was Paul.
If a little warm when at the sea level end of
the course it was a successful beginning to the
season and we hope the new players that
joined us enjoyed themselves and will get
knowledge of we locals and enjoy our talk
and company.

Danish Language courses at the Institute of Modern Languages
IML offers over 30 part-time language courses using a communicative approach to teaching and
learning. All four skill areas are covered: understanding, speaking, reading and writing for

Fodbold: Jagten på FCK indledt

Det vil koste jagttegnet, hvis en jæger i dag skyder
en hjort. Heldigvis er fodboldsæsonen skudt i
gang, og derfor måtte Brøndby lørdag gerne
indlede jagten på FC København.
Det gjorde mesterholdet i sikker stil med en 2-1
sejr over Viborg. Ganske vist et skuffende, let
bytte, men det betød ikke noget for de
imponerende 18.110 tilskuere, der fravalgte den
længe ventede udendørs-servering på de
københavnske cafeer lørdag eftermiddag.
De fik det bedste alternativ til en kold fadøl i form
af en god gang fodbold. Alt sammen leveret af
Brøndby.
Forud for kampen havde assistenttræner John
Jensen slået fast, at Brøndby ville forsøge at blæse
Viborg ud af banen fra første fløjt. Men det kræver
11 aggressive spillere. Det var Brøndby-spillerne
ikke, da dommer Claus Bo Larsen omsider modtog
den magtfulde TV-producents accept og piftede
forårsturneringen i gang.
24 sekunder efter havde Viborgs Anders Winther
det første skud på mål efter at Morten Wieghorst
havde indledt med en håbløs tværaflevering. Så var
Brøndby advaret, hvilket måske var grunden til en
lidt forsigtig indledning fra favoritternes side.
Imponerende pres
Det tog et lille kvarter før Brøndby kom i gang,
men da det skete, kunne Viborg-spillerne så
sandelig også mærke det. Et imponerende pres blev
lagt højt oppe på banen, og indikerede dermed, at
Michael Laudrup trods tabet af gode navne som
Thomas Lindrup, Allan Ravn, Peter Madsen og
Mogens Krogh, ikke har intentioner om at gå på
kompromis med det offensive fodbold fra efteråret.
Udgangspunktet lå især blandt midtbanespillerne,
hvor Martin Retov og Morten Wieghorst udgjorde
en stærk midterakse med den fremragende Thomas
Sport i Danmark
Kahlenberg lige foran sig. Sidstnævnte virkede helt
klar til superligafodbold. Timingen og skarpheden
i driblingerne var af høj klasse. Med sin flagrende
stil minder han om den tidligere Brøndby-spiller
Allan Nielsen. Og det er ikke kun fordi, at han
også spiller med nummer syv på ryggen.
Helt store chancer kom værterne dog ikke frem til
før pausen. Brøndby var spilstyrende, og Viborg
levede på holdets varemærke, kontraspillet. Scenen
var helt som man kunne forvente. Men Viborg var
ikke skarpe nok, når chancen bød sig. Det gjorde
den tre minutter før pausen. Wieghorst og Retov
kiksede totalt i kommunikationen, og pludselig var
jyderne seks mod fire. Det gav ikke en afslutning,
men formentlig Viborg-spillerne lidt mere tro på
tingene.
Jysk overmod
I hvert fald var de overmodige i halvlegens sidste
minut. Ellers stærke Ralf Pedersen snublede i en
ufarlig duel med Peter Foldgast. Den
arbejdssomme Foldgast kunne let trille bolden ud i
højre side, hvor Asbjørn Sennels lå alt for langt
fremme til at indhente Mattias Jonson, der fik frit
løb og let kunne skabe den fortjente føring.
Sennels var igen helt væk, da Morten Wieghorst
med en vidunderlig aflevering splittede Viborgs
venstre side. Igen var Jonson fri og han udlignede
på taksigelse-kontoen med en perfekt pasning til
frie Foldgast. 2-0 og klasseforskellen var indtruffet
på Brøndby Stadion.
Den holdt kampen ud, hvor de mange tilskuere
også fik lejlighed til at hylde den nye målmand
Casper Ankergren, der midt i 2. halvleg i stor stil
hentede Søren Frederiksens hovedstød oppe i
målhjørnet.
Han kunne dog intet gøre ved Michael Gravgaards
drømmetræf i det 84. minut. Reduceringen gav
Viborg lidt luft, men det havde været aldeles
ufortjent, hvis den sidste satsning havde givet et
jysk point.

sukker efter smag, ca. 1 spsk.
TILBEHØR: Groft rugbrød, sennep.
Steg flæsket ved ikke for stærk varme på
en tykbundet pande. Hæld det afsmeltede
fedt af flere gange, så flæsket kan blive
rigtig sprødt. Stegetid afhængig af
tykkelse, fra 15-30 minutter.
Tag flæsket af panden og læg det på fedtsugende
papir. Hold flæsket varmt.
Skær løgene i meget tynde skiver, og rist
dem klare og let gyldne i lidt af det afsmeltede
fedt. Drys løgene med salt og
hold dem varme. Skræl kun æblerne, hvis
det er nødvendigt. Skær dem i både og
fjern kernehuset. Steg æblerne i lidt af det
afsmeltede fedt, ved ikke for stærk varme.
De må helst ikke gå i stykker under steg
ningen. Rib timiankvisten for blade og
drys dem over under stegning. Drys også
lidt sukker over efter smag og æblernes
surhedsgrad.
Krydret æbleflæsk
SERVERING: Anret flæsket på et varmt fad eller en pande. Læg æblerne og løgene
ved siden af. Giv groft rugbrød og en god sennep til æbleflæsket
VARIATIONER AF ÆBLEFLÆSK
1. Anvend pigeonæbler ved juletid. De giver en meget pikant smag.
2. Timian kan udelades ved æbleflæsk
3. Steg håndskårne skiver bacon i stedet for fersk eller saltet flæsk.
4. Drys æblerne med puddersukker i stedet for almindelig sukker.
OVNSTEGT FLÆSK: Flæsket lægges i bradepanden. Bradepanden sættes i ovnen
ved 225°C. og steges indtil flæsket er gennemstegt og gyldent, 20-30 minutter, hæld
fedtet fra bradepanden et par gange under stegningen. Lad flæsket ligge på
fedtsugende papir, inden det anrettes.

Maren og jens havde sølvbryllup, og der var telt
i gården med spisning og taler i lange baner.
Den sidste taler var Jens, og hans tale var kort: -

bløwwn gywt!
Ud på aftenen, da de var kommet til at spille
kort, var der en af naboerne, der tog talen op til
diskussion. Han vidste nemlig udmærket godt, at
Jens var hårdt gift, så derfor spurgte han ham,
om han virkelig ville stå ved det, han havde sagt
ved middagen.

New Music Club to Open
The Aussie Music club is about to open its doors, providing what they
believe is the only non profit club in Brisbane presenting 100% Live Music.
President Warren Trout says “The majority of clubs these days are more
interested in providing gambling facilities rather than good entertainment.
Sequenced music, drum machines and canned music have replaced talented
musicians who strive to make a living in an age where technology has taken
over. We wish to provide a club that will give the public of Brisbane and the
musicians a venue to see or perform various styles of music. We also wish
to create a friendly club with a great atmosphere and promote as much
local talent as possible as well as featuring touring artistes.”
This non for profit club, will run a Saturday program for 12 to 17 year olds
The program will give the opportunity for all young people interested in
music to meet with others, form groups or bands, attend different workshops,
and socialise in a supervised environment. The program runs every Sat
morning from 10am to 4pm and costs only $10.00 per person or $15.00 per
family.
Our first meeting will be at 36 Austin St Newstead 15th March at 10am. (All
are welcome)
The club deeply appreciates the assistance it has received from The Danish
Assc. The Danish Club premises have given the Aussie Music Club the venue
it needs to provide its members with a host of Activities and performances.
We are keeping a open mind as to styles and types of music we will be
featuring Friday & Sat nights, however initially we have dedicated Sundays
from 4pm to 10pm to Brisbane’s Best Bands. This will also be a mixed bag
i.e. Bigbands Jazz/Funk, Traditional, Soul, etc. In conjunction with the
Danish club we also offer light meals, licensed bar and the venue is fully airconditioned

Needed: New editor for the Heimdal Newsletter
We (Yrsa and Aage) are stopping as editors. The August edition will be the last
one we will produce. Of course we will assist a new editor to get started
making the Newsletter. It is an advantage to have good computer skills. If you
are interested in becoming the new editor(s) or in helping with the magazine
contact os or any of the committee members for a talk.
Suggestion: A group of people could work together via the internet allowing
different people to use their skills for eg. advertising, writing, photographing
etc. and one person could put it all together for printing. Just a thought!
