ADVANCED RADIOTHERAPY
IN MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CANCER
MANAGEMENT
The 2008 UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology
post-graduate course “Advanced Radiotherapy in
Multi-Disciplinary Cancer Management”, a two day clinical
conference, will be held on May 23rd & 24th, 2008 at the
beautiful St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, California.
The program includes national and international authorities
in radiation oncology, medical oncology and surgical
oncology, discussing current approaches to the
management of Lung, Breast and Gastrointestinal
cancers. Presentations will provide the attendee with
information that can be applied to the daily management
of lung, breast and gastrointestinal cancers. Areas to be
covered include minimally-invasive surgery, stereotactic
radiotherapy, hypofractionated radiotherapy, high dose
rate brachytherapy, electronic brachytherapy, neoadjuvant
preoperative therapy for breast cancer, targeted therapy
and secondary treatment effects.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed for radiation oncologists,
medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, nurses,
physician’s assistants, radiotherapists, advanced
practitioners and other health care professionals
involved or interested in the treatment of lung, breast
and gastrointestinal malignancies.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
An attendee completing this course should be able to:
• Discuss the multi-disciplinary treatment of lung, breast
and gastrointestinal cancers.
• Discuss minimally invasive surgery for lung cancer and
understand the indications for its use.
• Discuss the role of targeted therapies, neoadjuvant
chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy for the treatment
of lung and gastrointestinal cancers.
• Discuss the use of stereotactic radiosurgery and
hypofractionated radiotherapy for lung and gastrointestinal
cancers.
• Discuss pre-operative chemotherapy for invasive breast
cancer and the indications for adjuvant post-operative
therapy.
• Discuss the different types of brachytherapy and the
indications and contraindications for their use
• Discuss partial breast irradiation in the management
of breast cancer.
• Discuss new radiosensitizers and biologic agents and
their interaction and use with radiotherapy.
• Discuss late sequelae of radiotherapy treatment and
symptom management of acute and chronic treatment
related side effects.
