connection, loyalty, and pride among its people. Open discussion,
empathetic decision-making, and creative problem-solving all
inform and support the bedrock of a healthy village.
Just as raising a child takes a village, so does nurturing a village.
Communities thrive when citizens and leaders are inclusive,
collaborative, and culturally aware.
VillageSpeak is a nonpartisan nonprofit whose mission is to
cultivate open, cross-island discussion about local issues.
VillageSpeak seeks to engage dialogue before, after, and during
the fires that flame our island, not just afterwards. It seeks to
positively impact the livability, friendliness, and respect that keeps
our families safe, supported, and connected.
Each month VillageSpeak
brings together a different
group of local leaders, often in
a moderated panel discussion,
to engage community
listening and learning.
From teenagers seeking to
affect local governance, to professionals at various stages of their
career and family lives, VillageSpeak kindles open conversations
across the diverse sub-cultures that define our island. Religious
beliefs, family compositions, income levels, political leanings, all
have a place at o ur village table.
villageSpeak is dedicated to:
encouraging ongoing, collaborative community
discussion about local issues
providing opportunities for our leaders to
meet with us in one-to-one conversations
cultivating empathetic, knowledgeable
civic participation and leadership
bringing the wide cross-section of island
voices into the town discussions
enlisting the arts to inform community
self-awareness and governing decisions
