There’s still time to submit your images for the 2013 Bainbridge in Bloom poster art competition.
DEADLINE: 5 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012
The winning work of art will serve as the face of the 25th annual garden tour and Evening in Bloom benefit auction,
taking place July 12-13, 2013. Marketing for the Bloom, which is the Arts & Humanities Council’s most important
annual fundraiser, reaches a national audience through magazine, print, and online promotion.
While the artwork will be used to promote the garden tour, submissions need not be limited to traditional, literal
representations. We seek artwork inspired by gardens, flowers, plants, landscapes and seascapes, or outdoor
spaces. Photographs and figurative work are welcome, and we invite you to push the envelope, for example with
color and abstraction.
You’ll find complete eligibility and submission guidelines, along with details about recognition and benefits, at
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Arts & Humanities Council seeks poems for our 2013 Poetry Corners
display. This year’s theme: Mischief.
The final selections from our juried poetry competition will be displayed in public windows throughout Bainbridge
Island during the month of April and shared aloud at a celebration reading.
New this year: Student categories!
CAll For BEACH GlASS: The Waypoint
Beach glass is pretty in a jar, but how about the chance to make it a permanent part of
Bainbridge Island’s landscape – and history?
The Waypoint, in conjunction with Mesolini Glass Studio, will be producing 30 fundraising tiles
to integrate into the Waypoint plaza at the southeast corner of Winslow Way and Olympic Drive.
Each tile will be crafted from concrete and beach glass donated by private citizens, with the
interiors depicting island-themed icons in fused glass. These tiles will become a focal point
of the Waypoint’s plaza area, concentrically placed to create a circular mosaic with a 14-foot
diameter. Tiles will be finished and ready for installation in the early spring.
Diane Bonciolini and Gregg Mesmer of Mesolini Glass Studio have a lengthy history of creating
community works of art on Bainbridge Island including the Beach Glass Quilt on Winslow Way, a
COBI Public Art project that was managed by the Arts & Humanities Council.
Donations of beach glass can be dropped off at Mesolini Glass Studio at 13291 Madison Avenue
NE, or at the Chamber of Commerce, 395 Winslow Way E.
For more information on The Waypoint Project of Bainbridge Island, contact Shannon Evans at
pshannon.evans@gmail.com. To learn more about the glass tile and fabrication process, please
contact Greg Mesmer or Diane Bonciolini at diane@mesolini.com or visit Mesolini Glass Studio.
With your help, this former eyesore will become a welcoming green space gateway!
