WHAT A TOOL An Encinitas residence on La Veta Avenue was reportedly burglarized of more than $12,000 in hand tools sometime between 4 p.m. Jan. 20 and 6 p.m. Jan. 22. UNPLUGGED Shasta Landscaping on Vallecitos de Oro in San Marcos was reportedly burglarized of more than $4,000 in electronics sometime between 4 p.m. Jan. 23 and 6:30 a.m. Jan. 25. HOME BURGLARIZED Someone reportedly burglarized a residence on Via del Caballo in San Marcos sometime between 8 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. Jan. 21. ANTI-SCHOLASTIC Alta Vista igh School on Bonaire Road in Vista as reportedly burglarized sometime etween 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Jan. 21. CLEANED OUT A man was reportedly robbed of his jewelry, cell phone and cash around 11 p.m. Jan. 24 on South Santa Fe Avenue in Vista. THIS ISN’T PARADISE Someone reportedly burglarized Children’s Paradise on North Melrose Drive in Vista of nearly $3,000 worth of electronics around 5:15 a.m. Jan. 20. SMOOTH CRIMINAL Someone reportedly robbed the Wal-Mart on ADVERTISING THAT WORKS! Malin Lovqvist-Doyle College Boulevard in Oceanside for less than $30 worth of skin care products around 2:15 p.m. Jan. 24. BIKES STOLEN Two Haro bicycles valued at $850 were reportedly stolen around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 24 from residence on Vista Way in Oceanside. QUITE THE HABIT Someone reportedly stole approximately $2,000 worth of cigarettes from Red and Wine Market on Vista Way in Oceanside sometime between 10 p.m. Jan. 22 and 3:30 a.m. Jan. 23. CONFLICT DIAMONDS Dozens of diamond rings and silver necklaces valued at $10,000, as well as a laptop and five Verizon cell phones were reportedly stolen from a residence on Oceanside Boulevard in Oceanside sometime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Jan. 22. PILLS PILFERED A woman was reportedly robbed of her bottle of Oxycodone pills around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21 on Oceanside Boulevard in Oceanside. Pasha is wanted for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of a man in Atlanta, Ga., in 1994. Pasha was born May 21, 1966, in Pakistan. He is 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 122 pounds. Pasha has black hair and brown eyes. He has ties to Brooklyn, New York and Pakistan. He may be in need of medical treatment. While Pasha was working in a convenience store, he allegedly attempted to lock a shoplifter in the store until the police arrived. However, when the shoplifter became verbally belligerent, Pasha allegedly shot him with a handgun and he died a few days later. Shortly thereafter, while being interviewed by the Atlanta Police, Pasha was told that he was being charged with murder. Upon hearing this news, Pasha excused himself to use the restroom and was not seen again. In late 2000, Pasha was arrested in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was returned to the state of Georgia. He was then diagnosed with medical problems and the charges against him were dismissed. In October 2003, information was received that Pasha's medical condition had been misdiagnosed, and the District Attorney’s Office decided to reindict him for murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Pasha has been charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Contact the nearest FBI office or American Embassy or Consulate if you have any information on Pasha. In the spotlight OCEANSIDE — Two of MiraCosta College’s theater faculty earned top honors recently from Region 8 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Theater instructor Eric Bishop received the Kennedy Center Golden Medallion of Excellence. MiraCosta makeup instructor Larry Jorgensen received the Excellence in Education award for the San Diego-area circuit for his great contributions over his long and distinguished career. Bishop and Jorgensen will receive their awards Feb. 11 at the awards dinner during the regional festival. Youth in opera COAST CITIES — A chorus of North County youngsters will be playing a part of the San Diego Opera’s production of “Tosca.” The youngsters include Daniela Camilleri, 13; Hannah Prater, 13; Sophia Linkletter, 13; Jerrin Padre, 12,; and Alyse Stults, 11. JAN. 30, 2009 Rotary backs, celebrates Mission OCEANSIDE — The Oceanside Rotary Club was pleased to present $5,000 checks to both Mission San Luis Rey and Mission San Luis Rey Parish Social Concerns from its Pacific Marine Credit Union/Oceanside Rotary Club crab and rib dinner held last September. The annual Crab and Rib Fest was held in the gardens of the Mission San Luis Rey. Mission San Luis Rey will use the donation for the continued restoration of the mission. Mission San Luis Rey Parish Social Concerns plans its donation to feed needy families from throughout the Oceanside community. The 83-member club also plans to host an Ethics Seminar in March 2009 for high school students, discussing ethics in the workplace and examining ways in which ethical leadership can be promoted in our institutions. COAST CITIES — As the economy continues to suffer the effects of the current recession, and as we enter the tax filing season, it may be worth noting that this year especially may be a year that all taxpayers take additional time to review all income, expense, and deduction items reported on their tax return. Important information regarding new tax incentives, tax credits, and increased benefits can be found in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. According to Kasey Ortiz at Jes Taxes in Oceanside, the extra time spent in reviewing the tax return may in fact provide many times more in the way of benefits resulting from the recently signed stimulus bill. Some highlights of the Stimulus Bill include: — More than 200 new tax law changes, incentives and credits for most taxpayers filing their 2008 tax return. A few important items included in the many changes are state and local tax deductions, Higher Education tuition deduction, deduction for Real Property Taxes Paid, and Teacher’s Classroom deduction — State and local tax deductions. This deduction was a part of the Jobs Creation Act of 2004 and expired at the end of 2007. Under the new law, the earned income falls to $8,500, thus providing opportunity for more taxpayers to take advantage of this credit. Taxpayers should scrutinize stimulus bill penalties — In addition to the numerous tax incentives contained in the bill, the new law adds a number of new penalties and increases certain penalty amounts for accuracy issues for tax returns filed that may contain mistakes. Taxpayers are advised to review with their tax professional all of the many new tax law changes that will affect their 2008 tax return filing. Most tax professionals should be willing to offer and provide a free consultation and review to determine if any changes in the law will benefit the filing of the return.
